funny bits from applications - on working in the recruiting business

Hello hello!

So I've been in my new job for over a month now and would like to tell you a bit about it because it has an utterly funny side to it.

Let me keep it short and sweet: I'm a receptionist and office administrator  for a labour hire / recruitment agency here in Perth. I work with a nice young team in a chic and trendy suburb and I'm allowed to wear (very) business casual clothes.
It's basically perfect and I love it.

Bonus: I learn a lot about Human Resources and recruitment.

My main task every day is to go through all sorts of applications and presort them for the recruiters. We mostly receive emails from backpackers and people from abroad so their English is often a bit...broken. Then again even if they're native speakers, some of them come up with weird stories in their resumes too.

I would like to point out that I'm not laughing about their English skills and I do not mean to imply that they are stupid!! They just sometimes write funny stuff in their applications and I have collected the best expressions so far to make you guys chuckle a bit too.

Here we go.

So these are my favourite funny bits from the applications so far:

"The first thing I did after leaving school was purchase a bouncy castle with the money I had saved over the years. After creating my own flyers and single handily pushing them through thousands of doors in my local area I now had my own Bouncy Castle Business making a profit of [...]"

These are my favourites so far. It's amazing what I was able to glean in only one month hm?!

Recruiting is a sometimes annoying but definitely fun business!

To make this a proper outfit post: the pics show what I wore to work the other week.

The Darth Vader bag and the sailboat dress are tried and tested favourites of mine. If I have one of these "a closet full of nothing to wear" mornings I can always rely on the sailboats.

The khaki green jacket is a new piece! I couldn't resist browsing the Cotton On sale in my lunch break the other day and found this versatile little number for only $15.

life lately - summer edition

Hello people!

I put together another life lately post so you can see what I've been doing and why I haven't blogged regularly.

I'm not a summer girl but I'm still trying to enjoy myself here in Düsseldorf because there are only three months left before I'll leave for Perth.

I bought this shirt last year when I was in Prague and it turned out to be the perfect fan shirt for the World Cup!

I was invited to Hans im Glück in Cologne, we had delicious burgers and yummy cocktails. A great night with great friends!

These are just some of the many toppings we offer at Tenten Yoghurt. Yum!

My favourite place to buy them: Kaffeepiraten!

Our monthly ladies night was a bbq party on Julia's roof-deck. It's always a blast to meet my girls!

It was a long night but great fun and I'm looking forward to seeing the result!

my mum's wedding

Hi lovelies!

I've been waiting to publish this post for so long because I was curious about the professional photos and then it took the photographer ages to upload them to his gallery but now they are finally online and my post is complete.

Voilà: my mum's wedding!

It took place in May, shortly after her birthday and it couldn't have been more perfect.

A little bit of background info: when my mum got married to my dad they were  both very young and didn't have much money so their wedding was simple and convenient, nothing like the pompous deluxe weddings we seen on TV and also not even like the common "normal budget" weddings.

Long story short: after a unspectacular first wedding and a divorce now her second (and hopefully last) wedding had to be amazing - and it was!

She had a customized white suit (for some reason she was totally over white dresses), a beautiful bouquet of red roses, she had picked a delicious wedding cake and a beautiful romantic country style location.

In the morning we had our hair done at the local smalltown hairdresser's shop (who went a bit crazy on me with the curler), afterwards we went to the registry office for the official part and eventually had a big celebration at a country restaurant and guest house far into the night. Luckily the closest friends and family members were so privileged to even have rooms for the night there.

Thanks to the overexposure it looks like I'm wearing white tights but no, these are actually my legs (in transparent tights).

As for the outfit: the crop blazer was a flea market find, the dress is Pimkie, the necklace is Primark and the shoes Deichmann.

The price for the whole outfit was less than 40 €.

I think the pictures speak for themselves, no? ;)

One week after the wedding the newly-weds left for Gran Canaria to spend their honeymoon there.

And now they are living happily ever after...

I was pretty insecure and anxious if someone would be interested in my photos and ramblings. Now three years later I'm glad I started blogging and kept going until now.

Do you still talk to your first love?

No, 14-year-old me was tough enough to dump him and never talk to him again after he kissed my former best friend. Ha!

First alcoholic drink:

Not really the first alcoholic drink, but even better - first alcoholic faux pas: I was 14 and told my parents I would sleep over at a friend's house and of course she told her parents the same. So we hung out at the skate park, got really drunk, visited a punkrock concert and stayed out all night, got even more drunk and broke into a tool shed (no comment...). The next morning a guy wrote me a message if we would be together now and I didn't even know who he was. What do we learn from this kids? Alcohol is bad. (But fun!)

First job:

When I was 18 (late, I know - spoiled only child) I worked at a recreation park (where the aforementioned skate park was). I had to sell tickets mostly, but of course felt like the coolest kid in town when I let all my friends in for free.

First car:

Oh my God, are you sure you want to know that?!

My parents' car: back then (and fortunately long gone by now) a neon yellow Seat Cordoba. And yes when I say neon I mean NEON!! It was so embarassing...

First person that texted you today:

Someone I got to know a couple of weeks ago and like a lot.

Who was the first person you thought of this morning?

First great teacher:

Mr. Flecke, my English teacher in 5th grade. I think this is where my love for the English language began (I study it now).

I actually wonder how this happened because he made us stand up and sing a "Good morning Mr. Flecke" song each morning when he entered the room, damn I hated it...

Where did you go to on your first airplane ride?

Haha really not spectacular: Dresden. It's a city in Eastern Germany and I went there on a trip with a friend. The flight took us ridiculous 45 minutes.

Who was your first best friend? Do you still talk?

Thomas! I've literally known him since I was born. His mum and mine were best friends too, they lived across the street so their house was my second home. We're still best friends, so yes we still talk ;)

Where was your first sleep over?

I really don't remember but I think probably at my grandma's house. I loved it there, she always made me delicious snacks and let me watch TV as long as I wanted. Score!! In your face, mum's TV restrictions!

What was the first thing you did this morning?

Pushed the snooze button! Like every morning.

What was the first concert you ever went to?

Oh, well now this is embarassing... The Kelly Family when I was 10 years old. Looking back now I feel deeply ashamed!

First broken bone:

Never had one. My bones are made of steel, ha! No they're not, but still they seem to be pretty indestructible.

First piercing:

You can see it in my photos. The lip piercing when I was 18.

First foreign country you've been to:

The Netherlands. My parents used to go there on vacation with me almost every year when I was a child.

First movie you remember seeing:

Uhm, hhmm...I think it was Arielle but I'm really not sure.

First detention:

I don't remember if we actually had detention. But I had to leave the class room a lot because I couldn't keep my mouth shut and chatted too much.

First roommate:

Never had one (ex boyfriends don't count here, do they?).

First sport you were involved in:

I started to take jazz dance classes when I was four and quit when I was sixteen.

First thing you do when you get home:

I put on my pyjama pants!! :)

When was your first kiss:

At a summer camp when I was 12. Wind of Change was playing in the background - haha as corny as it can be, right?

Hi guys!

It's finally Saturday! And as I took next Monday off and as Tuesday is a holiday I'm looking forward to an awesome long Halloween weekend. We were invited to a friend's apartment party, so I tried to improvise a costume, but more about that after Halloween...

The photos were taken at the beginning of the week when it was pretty windy, so I preferred pants instead of skirts. I got this mini dress via Ebay and it has the perfect length to be worn as a longer tunic, so I gave it a go with my skinny jeans and ankle boots. I don't really like how the boots underline the shape of my legs, but oh whatever, they're warm, comfy and water-resistant, that's what is important.

Yesterday I met some friends at the Moyo's in Cologne for our monthly girls night. We had some delicious Southern US/Creole food, cocktails and so much fun! You know when girls start to remember school time, talk about teachers, boys, parties back then... some old stories really cracked me up, it was hilarious :)

On the hot days I drink blueberry spritzer that is made with this yummy Swedish blueberry concentrate from Ikea.



I loved that H&M marked down these maritime summer dresses to only 7€!



I saw this little fella sitting on the outside of our kitchen window to dry himself after a rain shower and snapped at the chance to take a photo.



I received a little package with some goodies the other day from the lovely Ina of Cityglamblog.
I was one of the winners of her latest giveaway and got this adorable notebook, a little packet of vanilla chai, a sparkling little owl necklace and a cute card with some kind words.
