funny bits from applications - on working in the recruiting business

Hello hello!

So I've been in my new job for over a month now and would like to tell you a bit about it because it has an utterly funny side to it.

Let me keep it short and sweet: I'm a receptionist and office administrator  for a labour hire / recruitment agency here in Perth. I work with a nice young team in a chic and trendy suburb and I'm allowed to wear (very) business casual clothes.
It's basically perfect and I love it.

Bonus: I learn a lot about Human Resources and recruitment.

My main task every day is to go through all sorts of applications and presort them for the recruiters. We mostly receive emails from backpackers and people from abroad so their English is often a bit...broken. Then again even if they're native speakers, some of them come up with weird stories in their resumes too.

I would like to point out that I'm not laughing about their English skills and I do not mean to imply that they are stupid!! They just sometimes write funny stuff in their applications and I have collected the best expressions so far to make you guys chuckle a bit too.

Here we go.

So these are my favourite funny bits from the applications so far:

"The first thing I did after leaving school was purchase a bouncy castle with the money I had saved over the years. After creating my own flyers and single handily pushing them through thousands of doors in my local area I now had my own Bouncy Castle Business making a profit of [...]"

These are my favourites so far. It's amazing what I was able to glean in only one month hm?!

Recruiting is a sometimes annoying but definitely fun business!

To make this a proper outfit post: the pics show what I wore to work the other week.

The Darth Vader bag and the sailboat dress are tried and tested favourites of mine. If I have one of these "a closet full of nothing to wear" mornings I can always rely on the sailboats.

The khaki green jacket is a new piece! I couldn't resist browsing the Cotton On sale in my lunch break the other day and found this versatile little number for only $15.

my interview outfit

Hello everyone!

How have you been?
I have some really awesome news to share with you today: I finally found a new job! Woohoo! My first real job as a graduate and also my first job abroad. And it's a good one too! I'll be a receptionist and office admin for a recruitung agency starting from next month. I really couldn't be happier, the office and the people are lovely. I signed my contract yesterday and can't wait for January now.
I was already panicking about my small budget but now I know I won't run out of money and will be able to stay in Australia for a while.

The outfit in the pictures has been my interview outfit for all kinds of job interviews so far, be it retail, hospitality or office position.
I have never been the classic business look girl, it's just not for me. Business pants are simply not possible on me because  my legs are two different sizes and office pants fabric turns out to be really unflattering for this problem (who knew?!)...
Furthermore I have this lip piercing which seems to be screaming "She is a criminal! She will rob you and kill your family!" into people's faces all of the time. Always makes me feel like I come across as a punk (business punk maybe?), which is not bad. Simply can't pull off a classic business outfit, just saying.
So I decided to be myself and make my outfit show it: classic black and white is always chic, some quirky jewelry and red nails make it "more me" and the brown leather belt adds a bit of my love for vintage to it. Add a pair of black flats that show I really am no high heels  girl et voilà, that's my business style.
I will always try hard to find an employer who respects my appearance and is interested in my skills rather than take out my piercing and change my style for somebody who doesn't care about my skills and just looks at my outside.






By the way: Do you see a Cannabis leaf in the necklace? I know it's not the exact shape and try to ignore it but I'm always afraid others will interpret it as a symbol of smoking weed. I'm not Miley Cyrus, people! I swear!

Hellooo!

Long time no see!
It's been a bit quiet round here lately because I've been busy working in my two jobs. In addition I started my Marketing internship today and thus will be working in three jobs for the next two months.
Despite the lack of free time I like working over the weekends. I have been shifted from the café to the frozen yoghurt shop permanently now and I really enjoy meeting so many different interesting people there. A big part of our regular customers is Japanese, which is nice because I get to learn some Japanese vocabulary. The other day they started teaching me all the different flavours. I already know strawberry - ichigo!
Also one of my lovely regulars brought me Matcha Kitkat from her trip to Tokyo, so nice!
Another favourite customer of mine is an old Japanese lady. She is a philosophy professor and the sweetest granny ever. Every Sunday she goes to church and afterwards drops in for cake and coffee with her African friend and church buddy. She is always dressed nicely in matching colours from head to toe and always wears a hat while he is often dressed in traditional African batik suits hand-dyed by his aunt.
They are such a lovely unlike couple.

In the pics (which are from last week) you can see me proudly presenting you my new favourite tote bag: the Zelda bag! With the Triforce! Gold on black! Can it get any better?
The Wind Waker is one of my favourite games ever (but no. 1 is Ocarina of Time of course!) and so I thought it would be nice to pair the bag with my sailboat dress (because in case you don't know: The Wind Waker is all about Link sailing around on a cute little boat).
