rollin' and tumblin'

Hello people!

I've gotten back into the groove of taking outfit pics regularly - more or less at least.

In the last two weeks I found it really hard to sit down and be productive after I came how from work. The desk still is my favourite place but I rather sat down to watch documentaries or listen to the new The Gaslight Anthem album. Is anyone else out there a big fan?

I fell in love with their music back when The 59 Sound dropped. Man did I play this record on repeat! Of course the first thing that catches your ear is a good melody but I'm also a lyrics person. No matter how awesome a song is, stupid lyrics ruin it! That's why I can't stand most Top 100 songs.

The Gaslight Anthem however always really hit my weak spot with their beautiful choice of words. Then they add the right sound, melody and lots and lots of melancholy to their music and I'm over the moon.

I even wanted a tattoo with a line from one of their songs once but ended up not getting it done because I couldn't find a nice typography. It was "What you don't have you don't need it anymore." from the song "Stay lucky" which was very fitting after a breakup.

Beautiful. This simple sentence has given me so much ever since.

Let's keep the rest of this post short and sweet: I will quickly tell you something about the outfit because it's already past 8 and I still have to do the washing.

So the plaid shirt is a favourite of mine because of the lovely colour combo. My boyfriend called me bogan when I wore it but what does he know anyway?! Bogan at heart forever! The t-shirt is Carhartt (second hand via Ebay for about 5 bucks), the H&M jeans are the best because they fit before and after the 15 kilo weight loss and the shoes are Minnetonka (also a second hand buy, about 30 bucks via Kleiderkreisel).

Hello!

Today is really stressing me out...

University is killing me with its stupid bureaucracy!

I have passed my bachelor and have been trying to apply for receiving my certificate so I can leave the student life behind and start an exciting new chapter as an adult with a real job and actual wages that pay the bills. Well actually not, I will officially stay a student until the end of the semester, but you guys get my point right?

I'm sick of uni, it has taken me way too long to finish my studies anyway. I want to leave now and never go back there because I'm so fed up. But no, uni does not let me go so easily.

Fill in this form, go and get that confirmation about whatever crap they want. I ran back and forth for four hours today with documents and forms and I'm still not able to apply for my credentials because in 2011 some lecturer forgot to forward my grade for an exam to the examination office.

Can you believe how shocked I was today when they told me that I would still have to pass another exam?! After I already passed my degree?! Seriously?!

Fortunately we were able to find out that this is not the case. Phew! However I still have to postpone my application for another week now and that sucks because I'm so impatient.

University of Düsseldorf, your administration sucks balls!! 

Okay, enough agitation, now for something positive: I found a fantastic "Irish Imports" playlist on Spotify! Lots of nice Irish music, so perfect for calming down after a stressful day. Now I'm in my bedroom, peacefully blogging away my time with the window open and a cup of coffee next to me. Life can be quite nice too sometimes...

I've been listening to the first 30 songs already and love it! Good mix of Irish folk, rock, pop and some classics. This would definitely also be great for a roadtrip along the Irish coasts in the summer. If I could only go and book a flight now... 

The only thing I need to feel completely good again is food so I think I'll go and improvise something in the kitchen now. Do you know fried eggs on toast with cheese and ham? Awesome snack! Yup I think fried eggs it is.

Hello loves!

I'm just dropping in to post this casual look I wore to work yesterday. It features some comfy stretchy jeggings, my trusty Minnetonkas, a nice simple blouse AND one of my favourite cardis. Last month I stocked up on light cardigans for spring/summer because I hate to go out with bare arms, I can't wear tops with less than t-shirt sleeves on their own, I will always need a cardi to feel properly dressed. Just one of the many quirks I have.
I really love the graphic print on this little black and white number, it's perfect with plain shirts and denim.

Last night was time for friends, beers and acoustic music at my favourite hangout Brause. In cooperation with the Düsseldorf-based musician Honig they host acoustic concerts from time to time. This time Honig presented Hello Piedpiper from Cologne and played some songs with him. It was wonderful - great musicians with great voices and great sound. If you like singer/songwriter music you might want to give them a listen.

Mine can only get better because Thursday is a holiday and I was able to take Friday and Monday off so I will have a superlong weekend, yay!

I've got my heart strung up on clothing line

Hello lovelies!

Gosh what an eventful week, I'm so glad the weekend has finally arrived now. I had lots of fun the last days but it also was pretty exhausting to be out and about all day. I worked until 6 and never came home before 11 pm. On Monday I had dinner with some friends, on Tuesday I saw Elysium (which was awesome!!), on Wednesday I had martial arts class and yesterday I went to Cologne to see the Chuck Ragan concert (which was more than awesome!!). Tonight a friend cancelled our date so I will finally have some time to rest - I have to be fit for more action tomorrow.

This outfit is from Monday when it was a little cooler outside, hence the jacket and hat. I hadn't worn this dress in ages and thought I should take it out again because it's pretty and deserves to be seen in daylight from time to time. The last time I wore it was to a friend's birthday one year ago - isn't it actually creepy how I can't keep a single maths formula in my head but remember when I wore which dress the last time?! Freak much?!

Anyway, the cute floral dress and the casual hat, jacket and shoes were the perfect mix for me that day. How do you like it?

Alright, the first thing I will do to celebrate that it's the weekend is take a little nap - aaah the pleasures of a Friday afternoon.

cowboys, Indians and acoustic guitar songs

Hello!

I'm back after a fun weekend and a laid-back Monday and Tuesday with actual summer temperatures. These outfit pics were taken last week before the weather got summery, hence the black tights. I couldn't wait to wear this sunny yellow skirt for the first time! Bought it in the Peek & Cloppenburg sale some months ago but wasn't sure if the balloon shape would flatter my legs. Well my legs are not the bomb in it, but it looks okay enough to wear it out, so I paired it with my new denim shirt and my favourite summer shoes, the Minnetonkas. Also added the horse-print scarf to match the cowboys and Indians theme of the shirt and shoes.

To raise the issue of summer weather again I have to say that either the German summer has become more bearable, or my body has changed somehow because I noticed that I sweat less than in the years before and I seem to be able to handle the heat much better. Not as many insect bites as in the years before, also not as much prickly heat and less massive sweating. Am I becoming a summer person after all? Well, no not really, I still love me my freezing cold winters. But it's amazing to experience how things can get better after you've been convinced for your whole life that they wouldn't.

In other terms I'm not that grumpy anymore because of the temperatures and I like it.

Alright, normally my post would end here after the tried and tested structure of photo-text-photos-text-photos, BUT today I stumbled upon a really awesome Youtube Channel I'd like to share in case there are people out there who are as obsessed about good acoustic guitar songs as I am. There are not many videos online there, but the few you can see there are so awesome! The bands are probably not that common among most of my readers, but if you like Defeater or Make, Do And Mend like me, you'll like this channel!

Mair1 Festival weekend

Hi lovelies!

It's summer (well, at least according to the calendar, the weather here is something else...) - and summer time means festival time! So despite the crappy weather I spent my weekend at the Mair1 Festival with friends. We camped and it was bitterly cold at night and mostly also in the daytime but still it was a great weekend with lots of fun and awesome bands.

My favourites definitely were Boysetsfire, NOFX and Funeral For A Friend - and the hot coffee at the crêpes booth!

Here are some impressions of what happened:

Yes I'm wearing the oxblood hoody in every photo because I lived in it all weekend. On Saturday it was so cold that I actually wore two shirts and another sweater underneath and a parka over it to keep me warm.

It's ridiculous but if I had known better I would have brought my winter jacket - no joke! And it is June! So unbelievable...

Anyway, have you already visited some festivals this summer? Are you planning to do so? Where? And what bands do you want to see?
