my last days in Düsseldorf - a little update

Hello loves!

Only three days left until I'll go to Australia!
Here is a little update on what's been going on lately. I thought it would be nice to simply use my Instagram pics because I've been on Instagram nonstop anyway.

Follow Bad Taste Toast on Instagram if you like! :)

So, what have I been doing? Well, first of all I moved out, painted and cleaned my apartment and returned the keys to the landlord. I've sold a lot of my furniture lately and eventually managed to fit all of my belongings into a 5 sqm trailer (that's what will be stored in my dad's basement).

I've also been enjoying the beautiful autumn we have here this year. I'm staying at a friend's place at the moment and he lives right by the Rhine so I can see the pretty riverside everyday - love it so much!

Oh and then there's the food, right? I've been trying to work off my food bucket list for Düsseldorf. Visited old and new favourite eateries (Kaffeepiraten, Ugly Deluxe, What's Beef) and tried out new things (Yomaro, Stier Royal). As I quit my job at the frozen yoghurt shop I am now finally allowed to try our competitor's products - mmhh yumm it was so good!

What have you been up to lately?
Hope everyone's having a lovely start of the new week!

pink thunderstorms

Hello peeps!

It was stormy, really stormy last night here. Scary stormy! The sky turned dark grey all of a sudden, it began to rain and crazy winds swept through the streets. Then came thunder and lightning, more heavy winds and it was really raining cats and dogs and baby elephants.
Twigs, branches and whole trees fell, got tumbled around, hit cars, shop windows and according to the news unfortunately also three people. Cars were blewn onto the tram rails, big waste containers were blewn against an iron gate and pulled it off its hinges. Roof tiles came crashing down on the pavement.
I have never ever seen such a thunderstorm in my whole life!
I still can only imagine how it must be for other places in the world which have to fight hurricanes on a regular base, but damn this was unbelievable if you've never seen it before. We had storm forces of up to 144 km per hour (that's 90 miles per hour) - that officially is a hurricane.
Today however it was unbearably hot and humid again. I had the day off and wandered through the streets heading for the old town to meet a friend. I had to walk because there was no public transport at all today. On my way the aftermath was clearly visible, whole trees lying in the streets, on cars and branches and twigs everywhere.
But it was good to see the city being awakened and reconditioned, everyone swept the pavements, tried to move branches out of the way, neighbours helped each other with their flooded basements.
Düsseldorf is a great place with great people - most of them not nearly as snobby as the reputation says they are. A proud city that pays lots of attention to a spotless cityscape. So it'll get up, brush the dirt from its shoulders and shine again soon.

But maybe now for something different not as tragic to brighten up the mood okay? I don't mean to sound like a shallow person switching from a disastrous storm to my outfit, but the damage is done and now we can just try to build everything up again and make better preparations next time. That's how life will always make us learn from mistakes.
As for the outfit pics they were taken last week before the heat wave and storms struck us, therefore there's a jumper involved. I don't know what it is that makes me love pink so much at the moment but there has definitely been some change going on in my mind regarding this colour. It's not that I hated it before, it just didn't do anything to me and I had no idea how to style it and thought it doesn't look great with my hair anyway. But lo and behold! I bought an amazingly pretty pink lipstick the other day and last week I couldn't say no to this neonish (not so much in the photos, but actually is) candy pink jumper.
Like it?

By the way every time I post a new outfit I think about my "moral issues shopping post" again, that's why I'd like to say that in this outfit the skirt, belt and shoes are second hand finds.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Hello loves!

I'm just dropping in to post this casual look I wore to work yesterday. It features some comfy stretchy jeggings, my trusty Minnetonkas, a nice simple blouse AND one of my favourite cardis. Last month I stocked up on light cardigans for spring/summer because I hate to go out with bare arms, I can't wear tops with less than t-shirt sleeves on their own, I will always need a cardi to feel properly dressed. Just one of the many quirks I have.
I really love the graphic print on this little black and white number, it's perfect with plain shirts and denim.

Last night was time for friends, beers and acoustic music at my favourite hangout Brause. In cooperation with the Düsseldorf-based musician Honig they host acoustic concerts from time to time. This time Honig presented Hello Piedpiper from Cologne and played some songs with him. It was wonderful - great musicians with great voices and great sound. If you like singer/songwriter music you might want to give them a listen.
Here is a beautiful Honig song and video for all those who are interested:

Hope you like it?
I can't wait for the next concert because his voice is even more awesome live.

I hope you all had a good start of the week.
Mine can only get better because Thursday is a holiday and I was able to take Friday and Monday off so I will have a superlong weekend, yay!

Happy Tuesday!

Hi guys!

How are you? I hope everyone had an amazing New Year's Eve?!
Again happy new year to all of you!
I had a fun night at a friend's party with Jarryd and some other people. My friend Penny's apartment is by the Rhine so we were able to watch fireworks from there without trees or anything else in the way, it was awesome.
These photos are from last week when I had some time off to spend on having coffee dates and walks around the city with Jarryd. We first went to our favourite coffee shop Kaffeepiraten, then grabbed another coffee to go and took a little walk around the Medienhafen here in Düsseldorf.
I like it there, it's a really cool place to take photos. Has one of you maybe been there yet? :)
How do you like my new coat? It's on sale for 15 € at H&M at the moment. I fell in love with the abstract leopard print and the comfy fit of the egg-shape cut on the spot, so I really had to take it home with me.

Wishing you a nice weekend lovelies!
