what to wear for new year's eve

Hello loves!

I'm still going through my Christmas pics to put together an outfit post for you. As long as this is not ready to be uploaded, instead let's talk New Year's Eve! That's right, I'm adressing the topic that's unpopular every year. We all have closed the Christmas chapter now or will at least do so in the course of the next days - but what about New Year's Eve?

I always tend to forget about it in all the Christmas hassle. You plan where you spend your Christmas holidays, pick outfits based on these plans and think you've got your life together - and then suddenly Christmas is over already and leaves you with only a couple of days to catch up on the NYE plans.

This year however it's different because I'm a clever girl and have already thought about the new year celebrations for you!

I found a lovely Canadian online shop called PickeDresses which offers a wide range of beautiful Montreal Prom Dresses. Okay I'm not planning to visit a prom ball but these dresses are so pretty and elegant that you can simply wear them for a glamourous New Year's Eve celebration too.

I have picked the two dresses above to give you some style inspiration for your festive New Year's Eve celebrations.

If you ask me, you can never go wrong with sparkling cocktail dresses! The red one is an eye-catcher because of the colour and the adorable bow, the black/silver one is a bit more subtle but stil glamourous enough with the sequined bustier top. Both of them are statement dresses that basically don't need any further ado, just a nice pair of shoes and a clutch bag.

I would combine the red party princess dress with some elegant simple golden accessories like the heels and clutch above. The red sparkly earrings are a nice touch for some extra glamour.

The black/silver dress is a bit cooler and less girly, so I would go for a rocker kind of style here with black ankle boots and a black leather clutch, even a biker leather jacket if it's cold outside. For an extra portion of glam rock I would add a silver glitter headband on messy out-of-bed hair.

Another tip for NYE: carry heel cushioning pads and compact powder in your clutch. The pads to prevent aching feet in high heels and the compact powder to keep your face and hairline matte - and to conceal potential makeup faux-pas like runny mascara or bleeding lipstick.

sammydress - red jumper look

Hi guys!

A little while ago I agreed on cooperating with an online shop called Sammydress.com - they offer everything a fashion blogger's heart could wish for. I gladly ordered this gorgeous deep red cable knit jumper (along with two necklaces, one of which you've already seen in my previous post).
And this is the outfit I put together with my new jumper:

First of all I'm a sucker for cozy chunky knit pieces anyway and then of course I really love the colour, such a perfect shade of red that really compliments my complexion and hair.
At the moment we have chilly spring weather here in Germany, so I've been combining the jumper with different skirts and dresses to look springy but still stay warm.

omg a hair post

How are you?

It feels like ages since I've written the last post. I'm trying hard to get back to regular blogging but it's honestly too tempting to spend time with the new boyfriend. I know that sucks for the blog, but he'll leave Germany in a couple of month and go back home to the other end of the world, so we try to spend as much time together as possible.

Anyways, after I got lots of comments on my hair in the last months, I finally managed to put together a hair post. It's funny that some of you seem to be interested in this because I normally never think about my hair too much. I wear it the same way almost each day and I don't use any special treatments or something.

I got my recent hair style and colour last year in summer (see this post). My life seemed to be changing, so what does a girl do then? Visit her hairdresser, exactly! So my hairdresser worked his magic on my head and turned me from dark brown to ginger - or as the salon says "copper". He talked me into having bangs too and it was the best decision ever, I looked and felt like a new person.

As you can see in the photo the salon I go to is called Oliver's Hair, a chain with several branches here in Düsseldorf.

I have my roots dyed once in 3-4 months, which is actually too little but I can't afford it more often, so I regularly have to rock the dark blond roots for a while instead.

The colour I wear is called "copper", but unfortunately I can't tell you more about it because my hairdresser mixes and prepares it especially for my hair type. A good hairdresser will know your hair well enough to decide what exact colour to prepare.

In my case it's that I have dyed my hair so often that it's dry and the structure is porous, so it will soak up the colour like a sponge but also let it go again very quickly after only 2-3 washings. So my hair dresser mixes in an extra portion of red because she knows the "real" copper tone I want will appear and last longer after the red has faded out a bit.

Look at the "after" photo above and then watch the following sequence of pics and you'll understand what I mean.

So as you can see the "real" copperish red-blond tone is reached after two weeks and several washings (I usually wash my hair every second day). It stops to fade out so much then and only gets slightly lighter in the course of the following four weeks, so that after eight weeks it still looks decent enough colour-wise (sorry, really had a bad hair day in the pic above style-wise though).

Then I start to get dark blonde roots and have to make a new appointment soon.

Also I have my bangs trimmed regularly, therefore I drop in at the salon once a month, otherwise I can't see anymore.

As for the products I use, that's pretty boring actually: I live on a student budget so I buy different cheap shampoos and conditioners at the supermarket. However if I can afford it I love to use L'Oreal Everpure products. The only product I always buy, no matter how broke I am is the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Finish Cream (in German "Zauberformel").

dressing like your favourite TV character

Hi guys!

Today's post was written in collaboration with Veronica Stone, who asked me which lady's style I would choose for dressing like your favourite TV character.

I liked the idea because there are actually three girls whose style has impressed me while I was watching the series they played in.

No. 1 is Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, played by Anna Friel, in the lovely series Pushing Daisies, which was unfortunately over after only two seasons.

Her style is, like the whole series, gaudy, over the top and cute as a button. Vintage inspired dresses in bright colours, playful prints (most often florals) and always perfectly matching accessories. She's the quirky lively and nosy girl and the stylists really managed to reflect this in her outfits.

No. 2 is the great Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City (played by Sarah Jessica Parker if there's someone who doesn't know), one of the most popular and most copied fashion idols ever I think. I mean seriously, what's not to love about her looks? Effortlessly stylish, dramatic, playful - Carrie uses fashion as her playground. She was the one who taught us that it looks amazing to mix haute couture with fleamarket chic, ballet dresses with ghetto bling, lingerie with street wear. Patricia Field really did a fantastic job in creating the Carrie outfits, she's one of my favourite TV characters ever style-wise.

No. 3 would be Effy Stonem from the British series Skins (played by pretty Kaya Scodelario). Effy is a messed up little party girl, she doesn't care about what others think, doesn't mince matters and lives life to the fullest. Her outfits are a mix of grunge, punkrock and effortless coolness, sometimes jazzed up with some sequins and glitter. You could say she's a little gutter fairy with holes in her tights and perfectly undone hair and make up. That's what I love about her character's style, the stylists managed to combine the "I danced the night away at several rad parties" with a twist of girly and wicked.

well plaid

Hi guys!

Phew, first real outfit post after the big hiatus - what can I say? I missed blogging.

In the last couple of months I've rarely worn something exciting, only jeans and shirt combos with boots and sneakers, so to warm up for blogging regularly again I chose this simple comfy look for the re-entry.

I don't know if it's just because of the winter weather or maybe also because I at least needed the feeling of comfiness when everything else was shit during the breakup, but my style has simplified itself a lot lately.

I'm back to the roots so to speak, to casual comfy looks, to bring other aspects of my appearance more into focus again, like make-up and hair. On the one hand it's because I've lost some weight this year and feel more self-confident without concealing things, on the other hand it's definitely also because I define myself differently now. Living in a relationship for a long time makes you define yourself by the other person to a certain extent, but now that I don't have this person anymore my style automatically changes and I start defining myself by other things again, like my taste in music, my hobbies, my friends. This makes me want to underline certain aspects of me that I put into the background before.

So this is what I look like most days at the moment: plaid shirts, cardi, skinnies, boots. Sometimes a hat too.

Probably pretty boring for many of you, but that's what I feel good in.

I will never stop loving plaid shirts for they are so cool and versatile and available in so many colours and fits. Actually not boring at all if you combine them with different stuff. And this is my very favourite plaid shirt which cost me ridiculous 3 bucks at a crappy thrift store - simple people can be satisfied with simple things, right? ;)
