the giants

Hello loves!

I know this should be a Valentine's Day post because the blogosphere is full of belated ones right now, BUT screw Valentine's Day because I have something better: art! I also don't celebrate Valentine's Day and forgot to prepare something romance-themed for the blog.

So art it is instead. Big art. Giant art. The Giants!

The Giants are two huge puppets brought to the Perth International Arts Festival by the French mechanical marionette street theatre company Royal De Luxe.

The Giant Little Girl and the Giant Diver roamed the streets of Perth last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They each walked different routes through the city and surprised the audience with actions like riding a giant scooter, taking a giant wee in the street or taking a giant shower before going to sleep in a giant bed. Pretty gigantic huh?!

Their strolls were always accompanied by a parade of musicians, volunteer helpers and of course the puppeteers (all dressed in red velvet in over 30°C by the way).

Jarryd and I went to see the Giants on Sunday on their last day of performance and it seemed all of Perth was there to say farewell - oh boy, it was so crowded!

Also the people sadly were a bit aggressive about having the best spot and view on the sidewalk and got a bit too snappy so that I spent most of the time telling these idiots to leave me the f*** alone. I moved back and forth to not have everyone's head in my pictures and as soon as I moved people around me were like "Don't you dare blocking my view, I've been here since 8 in the morning!" It was exhausting and made me really angry, ggrrrr....

The parade was still fun though and I was able to enjoy watching the giant puppets walk around regardless.

In the very end they shot confetti rain and vintage postcards into the air and I picked one up as a souvenir because this is something I'll probably never see again in my life: guys in red velvet suits operating giant lifelike puppets in the name of art. Crazy!

Afterwards we headed to La Veen Coffee and Kitchen, one of my favourite places in the city, to rest a bit and fuel up with coffee. And as if giant puppets wouldn't be enough art already, I also have some colourful outfit pics from our subsequent graffiti stroll for you. Ha! My blog has never been so artsy!

dogs and art (weekend recap)

Hello loves!

Sunday again and oh boy was that a weekend...big fun but really exhausting.

Let's start with Friday when I visited my best friend and his darling dogs. It was awesome to hang around and play with the dogs or hit the streets of Silent Hill on PS3 - just like it was back when we were 15! Good times!

Friday night I was invited to a friend's birthday in Cologne, but didn't stay long for different reasons. By midnight I was on my way to the station already, but life is full of surprises, no? I met a couple of guys who were looking for a good party and eventually joined them, so we hit the clubs until daybreak.

These are these unique events that life throws your way. We met, we got along well, we partied together, had fun and went home without exchanging contacts. I'm pretty sure I will never see these guys again and that's totally fine.

Yesterday was "Long Night Of The Museums" here in Düsseldorf, so I pounded different locations with a friend. I don't really get modern arts (see first photo of this post...), but it was really cool and we saw some interesting stuff.

At KAI 10 there was a performance artist performing  "electro horror" with strange electro sound compositions and light animations. I've never seen something like this before, it was weird but pretty impressive.

We also visited a candle labyrinth in a church and afterwards headed for an exhibition in a former hardware factory. More crazy artsy shit (see below) there, I tell you.

Like I said, I don't really get modern art. But maybe that's exactly the point - people stop and wonder about a piece of art and  think about what it could mean. And even if you cannot find an answer for yourself, it doesn't really matter because at least the artwork triggered something in you. This is my excuse for being a philistine. What's yours? ;)

Budapest favourite: Jojó Art Shop

Hi guys!

Wow, now that my stay in Budapest is almost over I finally find the time to post some photos bit by bit. These pictures for example I took last week when I visited a colourful and lovely little shop which is a bit hidden in a passage way from the main street to an inner courtyard. What I have definitely learned on my Budapest trips is: don't be afraid to enter narrow passage ways or courtyards, because there might be some really nice locations hidden in them!

This cute little paradise of accessories and gifts is run by one of the many nice Hungarians I've met in Budapest since I came here the first time last summer.
You can find such nice things there: felt brooches, illustrated mugs, different jewelry, bags, belts etc. - and everything is handmade by Hungarian designers and supports their arts!
I already bought a fabric flower ring and a gift for a friend and I'll return there tomorrow to get some more sweet little somethings to bring home (because it's so much better than these stuffy standard souvenir shops)!

Isn't this an adorable potpourri of articles? It's totally my thing, I love accessories, I love colours, I love cute knick-knacky stuff! :)

Hi guys!

On Tuesday I went to the doctor without an appointment , so I had to wait a little. Fortunately they had some copies of "Schöner Wohnen" (a home design and interior magazine) in the waiting room so I could pas sthe time reading and looking at all the beautiful home decoration. I love this magazine! I would never buy it but I love to read it at the doctor's :)
Everytime I flip the page I'm like "Aww I want a room like that!", every single page is amazing, seriously!

So I found an article about Suzie Standford and was amazed. This Australian lady collects old tea towels and tapestry with outstanding prints and puts them together to upholster vintage arm chairs with them! Beautiful, creative, rad idea! I love it! Look at this:







This is stunning, no? I love this idea of turning old tea towels into modern interior. I wish I had such an arm chair! One day maybe, one day... at least I can look at the pictures and dream ;)

By the way: before I had discovered Mrs. Stanford's arm chairs I saw a kind of home story about a Dutch TV host and she had such an arm chair at home! She said that the arm chair was the one her beloved mother had died in and to honour her the host had her mother's tea towel collection made into a cover for this special arm chair. I found the story very touching and admired the pretty piece of furniture. And then suddenly some days later I stumble upon an article about a woman who designs these arm chairs! Fate? ;)








Furthermore Suzie Stanford designs really cool lamps made of spoons! Sometime I envy people like her for their unfailing creativity... Apart from the seating furniture and lamps she also designs one off pieces or whole interior concepts. You can see it all on her pretty website

How have you been?
Ah, today I finally had the afternoon off so I was able to do laundry, clean up the apartment a bit and now I can finally blog and get back to your comments afterwards.

I was so happy because there was a package from the Ukraine in the mail today! I won a giveaway of one of my blogging buddies some weeks ago: Daria's Collages, where Daria gave away two of her unique fancy and cute collages.
If you don't know her yet you should head over and take a look, her ideas are fantastic! I'm a fan of collage art anyway and hers especially remind me of this TV show "Angela Anaconda" :)
By the way she also has an illustration blog called All Pencils Of Mine Are Sugarplums where you can find her lovely colourful drawn artworks.
I'll show you some photos of the collages as soon as I have two frames to put them into focus perfectly.

This is what I wore to uni today. It was the first time that I didn't try layering two but even three tights to stay warm in the cold and it worked! No frozen legs and feet because the upper black ones actually are leggings that have a special fleece lining, ooh so cozy!
I prefer to wear skirts resp. tights in the winter because my only weather-proof shoes are boots and due to my burly calves I always have problems with getting pants into the boots. It's much more comfortable with tights that don't get stuck in the bootlegs.
