Ich bin ein wenig spät dran mit meinem St Patrick's Day Outfit, aber tadaaa hier ist es! Schön grün so wie sich das gehört.

Leider habe ich den St. Paddy's Day dieses Jahr nicht feiern können da ich 1. arbeiten musste, 2. abends zum Kickboxen gegangen bin, 3. keinen Alkohol trinke weil es hier einfach megateuer ist und ich außerdem wieder Weight Watchers mache und 4. weil Jarryd abends arbeiten musste und ich außer ihm hier noch niemanden kenne und keine Freunde zum Weggehen hab.

Also hab ich nur im Geiste gefeiert und in schönen Erinnerungen an die grüne Insel geschwelgt. Mein erster und einziger Trip nach Irland ist schon viel zu lange her und ich will unbedingt bald wieder hin, hach es ist SO schön dort.

I'm a little late but taadaaa here is my St. Patrick's Day outfit. In all shades of Green, exactly how it's supposed to be!

Unfortunately I wasn't really able to celebrate St. Paddy's because 1. I had to work, 2. I went to kickboxing class in the evening, 3. I don't drink alcohol because it's super expensive here and I'm doing Weight Watchers and 4. Jarryd had to work and I don't have any other friends here yet so I didn't have anyone to go out with anyway.

So I celebrated in my mind's eye only and thought back to my last trip to the Emerald Island, which was too long ago. I fell in love with the country, landscape and people when I went to Ireland in 2012 and I would love to go there again soon. It's SO beautiful there!

[DE] Dieses wunderhübsche Kleidchen von Sportsgirl habe ich vor ein paar Wochen im Secondhand Shop ergattern können. Ich wollte ja immer schon ein Skaterdress aus neopren-ähnlichem Stoff haben und Zack da war es dann plötzlich, noch in tiptop Zustand wie neu und für nur $16, juhu! Und dann auch noch mit Klunker-Print! Jarryd nennt es das Illuminati-Kleid - ich sehe da aber eher Smaragde. Was meint ihr so?

[EN] I found this pretty little dress at the thrift shop the other day. I always wanted one of these neoprene (-ish) skater dresses and boom there it was all of a sudden, still in flawless condition and $16 only, yay! And even with gemstone print! Jarryd likes to call it the Illuminati dress but I rather see emeralds - what do you think?

meet my pink tiger

Hello people!

How are you?
I'm utterly happy today because it's raining and storming here! We even have thunder and lightning too! This weather reminds me of home (good old rainy Germany) and it's such a nice change to the heat we've had for weeks before.
I can't wait to experience the Western Australian winter weather! I'm pretty sure it'll be right up my alley, not too warm and not too cold, just right probably.
By the way can you believe I'm most likely the only girl in Perth who stubbornly wears tights all summer through? You will hardly ever see me without tights because as long as the temperatures don't rise above 40°C I will still wear my light sheer 15 DEN tights.
I don't know how all the other girls can do without a thin layer of nylon covering their legs!? It's not much warmer because 15 DEN is so thin, it's almost not existent. It's also so much nicer to wear sheer tights when you don't have the time to shave every second day (and when you don't have the money for waxing and the likes). AND at the office sheer tights are a blessing when the aircon is running all day.
Okay, enough ramblings on hosiery. I just needed to get this off my chest so I don't feel like a complete alien here in the city of bare waxed tanned beach legs.

This outfit is one of my new favourites at the moment. I love the combo of the dress and cardigan because it's so springy. The dress was an H+M sale bargain I bought shortly before leaving Germany and it was totally worth the 7 € I paid. It's cheap polyester quality but has the loveliest shape and fit.
The pretty pink tiger on my new tote bag was the perfect bright pop of colour to go with the floral print, don't you think? The bag was only 2$ at and the money goes to charity projects. The shoes are oldies but goldies: my trusty second hand mocs! I bought them dirt cheap on a German swapping (and buy/sell) website.
Looking at this outfit makes me happy because the whole combo in total is less than 50 bucks. Yes yes, I love me my bargains...

Well, that's all for today, I can't think of more things to talk about right now. I think next time I'll show you some more Perthian street art or tell you a bit about my new job. Not sure yet which post will come first.
For now I'll say goodbye and spend a cozy rain storm night in bed.

a smoothie addicted non-smoker

Hello lovelies!

It's Friday again and today I've been here in Australia for exactly one month! My Oz anniversary so to say. This also attends the fact that I've completed my first whole month as a non-smoker. Crazy right?
Before I came here I didn't shout from the rooftops that I was planning to quit smoking because I was really anxious I wouldn't succeed. So I rather kept quiet about it to keep the people's expectations low.
However when I arrived here it was the absolute opposite of what I had expected. I didn't have any problems at all, it was so crazy! No munchies, no wrecked nerves, no gain in weight, no cravings for nicotine, no need to put a replacement in my mouth. Nothing, nichts, nada.
I was so nervous because of all the horror stories I had heard about quitting and how some people had been trying forever without success, aargh... But it seems a good preparation is half the battle.
Everybody is different and there is no universal recipe for success, but in my case it helped that I had a certain deadline. I knew October the 23rd would be my last day as a smoker and I kept telling myself that I was forced to quit after that day which is true because here in Australia cigarettes are too expensive and would've killed my budget in no time. In the final weeks before my deadline I enjoyed my cigarettes more than ever and smoked a lot to exploit the situation. And after that, well, it sounds stupid but I simply stopped.
In a rush I had one last cigarette before we went to the airport, thinking I'd still be able to have an official last cigarette there. Well, I didn't. Also the farewell was tearing me up so I was distracted. What followed was a 21 hour flight on which I was not able to smoke at all anyways.
And that's the end of the story. It's crazy, I still can't believe it myself but I'm happy it was so easy after all.

What is even better: not only did I not gain weight, no, I lost weight. Yup, I know that's even crazier.

It's because I've become a sucker for homemade smoothies lately! For some reason I never owned a blender in the past three years.
Now that I live with Jarryd I can use his blender and have somehow developed this obsession for trying out lots of different smoothie and shake recipes. Over the past weeks I always had a minimum of two glasses homemade fruit and veggie smoothie per day. It's just so yummy and gives your body so many good nutrients. We don't have a scale in the house so I can't be 100 % sure but when I look at my body in the mirror I would say I've lost 2-3 kilos in one months. I'm not consciously cutting down on sweets or something, I just love my smoothies so much that I rather drink them instead of snacking on cookies or chocolate. A very positive development if you ask me, I'm really happy about the outcome.




Okay, now let's talk fashion for a second! The dress in the pictures is one of my first Australian purchases. I have to be careful with spending money as long as I'm still unemployed but the other day I explored the city centre and all of its shops a bit. One of my new favourite stores is Dottie where I bought this lovely boho floral print number in the sale for only 10 $.
It was the last one of its kind so it was meant to be! It fits like a glove and is perfect for the recent Western Australian spring weather with a pair of black tights. I already wore it out to a lovely street festival last weekend and to meet Jarryd's family for dinner (where I got a compliment for my outfit, ha!).

autumn is here

Hello!

I'm celebrating that autumn is finally here! I love it, it's my favourite season! I really couldn't wait to wear my boots and scarves again, so I took the chance when it was the first one of these lovely crisp sunny autumn mornings this year. It's the best to wrap yourself up in a cozy scarf and on the way to work grab a hot coffee to keep you warm from the inside. Fallen leaves in vibrant shades of red and yellow on the ground frame the pavement on my walk to the bus stop now. Autumn is such a beautiful sight!

It was the perfect occasion to wear my new dress! Well, it's not exactly new because I bought it second hand at the flea market some weeks ago for only 4 €, such a bargain. I'm a sucker for empire dresses and fell in love with the quirky floral print and button-up style on the spot.

Add boots, the beloved faux leather jacket and a cozy scarf and voilà: one of my new favourite autumn looks! Simple and cute.

As for life lately: It's my last days at the office now. Next Tuesday my internship and job as a student worker will be over and I will officially not be a student anymore, yay! Also I have lots of people here for an apartment showing everyday after work. My landlord asked me to find potential next tenants for him, so despite the stress I already have, I'm doing him the favour.

Hello!

People, work is taking its toll. After almost five weeks I can feel that working so much is driving me crazy. The last couple of days were full of stress and emotional ups and downs and eventually yesterday it happened: my keys were gone.

I came home from work, stood in front of the house door and my keys were gone. Nowhere to be found. I was close to tears because it had been a really crappy day already - but the missing keys were the icing on top!

I rang my neighbour's doorbells and someone let me in so I was at least able to enter the staircase. Lo and behold! My next door neighbour had left a note for me on the notice board: I had left my keys on my apartment door in the morning!

I'm such an idiot! Luckily she kept the keys until I came home. You can't imagine what horror scenarios of an empty apartment and all my money and stuff gone went through my head! I actually keep my money in the bank and not at home but I was panicking so whatever.

Now I've decided to go to bed earlier, get more rest and pay more attention to my physical and mental state of health until this stressful time is over. Over the last couple of weeks I've simply tried to get too much stuff done all at once. To avoid key incidents or similar catastrophes I'll write to-do lists and categorize them into different levels of importance.

Speaking of work: my internship has been awesome so far! I've optimized our company's event pages on XING (German version of LinkedIn), created posts for different event blogs, learned a lot about SEO (search engine optimization) and - drumroll - I got my own intern blog, so cool! The website will be launched next week and I'll blog about my experiences as an Online Marketing intern. Doing blogger stuff as a real job and getting paid for it is pretty much everything I was wishing for. Now I definitely know what kind of job I want for the future.

So as you can see my life has been full of positive and negative things (in turns) lately but in general I'm still doing okay enough to push on through and make the best of it until the end of September.

Nevertheless I really can't wait for October because I'll have so much more time again. I'll only work 2-3 days a week and use my spare time to spend it with family and friends to have some farewell celebrations before I hop into the plane at the end of October and leave Europe behind.

By the way the outfit is autumnal just like the weather here. I broke my shopping ban to buy this beautiful floral dress last week... I'm speechless in my own defence here, just couldn't resist the lovely print.

Hello loves!

It's Monday and I have to admit I had to double check if that's correct because I have completely lost track of what day it is since I don't have the weekends off anymore. This morning I thought it was Friday and last Friday I thought it was Tuesday.

I'm trying to smoke less cigarettes, I'm trying to lose some weight, I'm trying to keep up with doing the housework and I'm trying really hard to find a sleeping pattern so I don't oversleep and arrive late for work. Wait a second - did I just say I'm trying to lose weight? Well, I'm snacking on some delicious Dutch Dubbel Vla right now but Shush! you didn't read that.

As for the outfit: I threw this together spontaneously the other morning.

I'm one of these fuzzy girls who prepare the whole outfit for the day the night before. So that night I arranged the denim shirt and belt plus a cardigan and my green skirt neatly on my armchair.

The next morning however I felt really blergh, found the green skirt too short, the cardi too unflattering and hence changed the whole outfit by grabbing the next best skirt from the floor and the parka from the coat rack. I was already in a hurry but remembered I had bought a new necklace some days ago and suddenly I really had to wear it, so I ran back to the bedroom to put it on. Et voilà I was (finally) ready to leave the house. Hey, if I have to run to the bus stop I want to at least look good doing it!

This "necklaces over button-up shirts"-thing is really growing on me. I think I have to keep my eyes open for more beautiful statement necklaces.

Hello folks!

A warm welcome to the new followers who have joined Bad Taste Toast in the course of the last few days and a big *Thank You!* for following along and being interested in my little old life!

How was your weekend?

I hope not as exhausting as mine. Well actually I shouldn't complain because it was my own fault, nobody forced me to go out or dragged me to the clubs against my will but pheeew, it was way more eventful than planned. Remember when I was not sure about staying at home or going out on Friday? Well, "Miss I Can't Say No" decided to go and grab some drinks with a friend and his new flat mate....and ended up running to and fro between two clubs, dancing to nu metal songs from the 90s or strange undefinable electronic music in turns, getting home at 7 am. It was a total blast but - damn I'm too old for this shit.

Then a similar story happened yesterday night.

But I successfully stick to my new "no dates with douche bags" resolution and can proudly say mission definitely accomplished so far.

As for the outfit today the two most important pieces in this simple casual look were both bought on Ebay. The Cancer Bats shirt is a second hand bargain that I got together with an Alexisonfire shirt as a set in an auction. I just love the colour combo of grey and pink so much, especially paired with classic blue denim! It's comfy, it's cool, so there's nothing better when you're too lazy to get dressed in the morning. I'm a fan of plain and simple jeans and t-shirt days.

Another new Ebay purchase is the tote bag (from Jute Haus via shirt-customs) which speaks right from my heart - okay maybe it speaks English with a really hard German accent, but still from my heart. By the way, if you don't happen to know how Germans can butcher the English language you should be glad and not click here.

Alrighty, I hope everyone had a good start into the new week!

I will make the best of Monday by grabbing some Mexican food and hanging out with friends and new acquaintances later.
