One Night Abroad with Smartling.com

Hello loves!

Today I would like to introduce you to Smartling.com, a translation software platform that has put the entire translation workflow in the cloud.
Smartling enhances language translation services through a cloud-based translation software platform that automatically collects content, facilitates human translation, and returns translated content to you quickly and easily.
Who creates the translations? That’s entirely up to you. Use any combination of in-house or third-party resources. If you don’t already have a translation vendor, Smartling offers a network of translation partners from which to choose.

They asked me what my ideal night out in a foreign country would consist of.
As I've just moved from Germany to Australia I'll of course tell you what a perfect night out here in Perth would be like for me.

Adapting to a new language can be hard, even if it's the world language English. I've been learning English for over one decade now and speak it fluently, however I've never learned Australian English at school or university. The Australians have their own slang and like to abbreviate words as much as possible. They say brekky instead of breakfast, arvo instead of afternoon, barbie instead of barbecue and they throw in their beloved filler word "ay" a lot. Getting to know the Aussie slang will work best if you spend a night out with Australians of course!

And here is what my ideal night in Australia would consist of:
It would definitely have to be a barbecue party because I heard it's one the Aussie's favourite things to do. As this is an outdoor activity, I would wear my colourful breezy dress and the obligatory hat against the sun. A statement necklace as a little eyecatcher and flat shoes to feel comfortable.
Some cool beers would probably go along with the food and loosen the tongue to practice the newly learned Aussie slang words among the native speakers.
If got stuck and weren't able to remember a certain word in such a situation I would simply use Smartling's

What about you guys? If you could spend one night abroad where would you go, what would you do, wear and eat?

Thank you Smartling.com, that was a fun post to write!

Happy Thursday everyone!

  3. I think I would go somewhere you can really see the stars, so maybe Iceland. Just lay under a blanket and watch the stars travel across the sky :)

  4. Your red breezy dress with its birds in flight print is beautiful. I love the complementary contrast between your red dress and navy blue tights. Your Six statement necklace is pretty and your H+M hat is cute. I love your outfit. That Australian slang sounds contagious. I don't speak other languages myself so if I traveled some translation would help a lot. I'm not sure where I'd go or what I'd do, wear and eat if I could spend one night abroad but it's fun to think about.

  5. You're in Australia!! That's awesome, I'm so glad you had a safe trip.

Those Aussie accents are definitely contagious. I had a friend that did a uni exchange in Sydney a while ago and I went to visit him for a month. To this day I still say "no worries" quite a bit haha.

If I could travel anywhere for one night I would go to Morrocco. Mainly for the food :)

  6. Ahh Australians! I had an Australian colleague, and a Scottish one and then we had a girl from New Zealand, put us all together and we sounded like one of the bad jokes about 'an Aussie, an Englishman and a Sot walked into a bar...'

I do love Aussie talk :) Brekky, is common in the UK too and Barbie :)
