pssst bandido

Hi guys!

Just a quick post about what I did on Saturday ;)
In the morning Patrick and I went to Ikea to get me a new desk chair. That's what I wanted for my birthday but we didn't have time to go and get it in time for the 23rd of May, now it was a belated present instead. I'm so happy about it! Its name is Skruvsta, it's stylish and so comfortable.

And in the evening I met some of my friends to have my belated birthday celebration at a Mexican restaurant calles "Pssst Bandido" :)

Sorry, I don't have time to write much today, but I think the pictures will speak for themselves.
Here they are!

the outfit

a simple and comfy look (mostly H&M)

Unfortunately some of the girls couldn't come, but at least we were four and had a nice time though.

The food

We had Enchiladas, Tacos, Burritos and it was all so delicious!

we also called our friend Jasmin in Beijing to let her take part in our little get-together a bit

I got two lovely necklaces as a belated birthday present

We really had a blast again, as usual when we have our girls night out :)
Good friends, good food, can you ask for more?

Have a good start into the week!

soundtracks of our lives

Hi guys!

I have rediscovered my love for The Gaslight Anthem. The other day I heard their single on the radio and felt like listening to their music again and now I can't stop playing their "The 59 Sound" album. The melodies, the lyrics, the voice, this certain melancholy in their sound, everything is just perfect to me. Music that is so beautiful that it almost makes you cry, but in a good way. Do you know these songs that make movie scenes come to your mind? Like you hear a passage of a song and automatically think about how perfect it would be as the background music for one particular scene and it all makes perfect sense in your imagination and you think "Damn why can't I be a director?"
That's what their music triggers in my mind. And I love it.

"We could run all night
And dance upon the architecture
Come and take my hand
I'll do the very best I can"

And do you sometimes think about a soundtrack of your life? Well, I do and I know for sure that it would have to contain The Gaslight Anthem. Also the Deftones, Rise Against and The Ataris. What about yours?

I took these photos on Wednesday. Everything's pretty unspectacular, the outfit (casual 'n comfy), the setting (balcony) and the occasion (I went to the traffic department to request a new driver's license). But it was lovely weather and I like how the photos turned out.
The only thing special about this is the hair. I had seen this hairstyle on a girl in the tube the other day and thought it's really cool and also easy to do. Why do I never get ideas like that? So I braided a strand and used it as a headband. Brilliant!
I like this even better than wearing a headband because my conehead always makes these stretchy headbands wander to the back and mess up my hair.

Unfortunately I don't have more interesting things to tell you today. I had to drive my dad to the airport very very early this morning, so I'm pretty tired. I think I'll spend the evening in front of the laptop listening to this awesome music.

birthday recap

Hi guys!

I'm late with posting these photos - as usual. They were all taken on Monday when I turned 25. Whew 25! What can I say? Time flies! I keep repeating it, I know. It's terrible how time flies when you grow older. Thank God I'm blessed with Mum's good genes, everytime I buy cigarettes or alcohol the people ask if I'm already 18. But I have a feeling this will be over in one or two years ;)

(don't ask me what I was doing there :D)

This is what I wore for my birthday: not really chic but cute and comfy, just as I like it. First I went to work with a bag full of muffins, brownies and cake because I work at a hoggish office, all my co-workers love cake :)
Then my dad and his girlfriend picked me up in the afternoon and we had coffee and more cake at our apartment. Cheesecake, yum!
In the evening they invited me and Patrick to a restaurant of my choice. I chose a brewery where they serve delicious simple fare. We had salad with pork stripes in honey-mustard-jus, goulash casserole and different desserts (pancakes with apple sauce, apple strudel with vanilla ice cream and so on).
So basically we were eating the whole day :D

(btw Patrick was so kind to take these photos of me)

My dad's present was so fun! He works at a print shop, so he filled a little cardboard suitcase with all the paper beadlets that are a a by-product of the punch machine and hid an envelope for me in it. The envelope contained money for our Ireland holiday next year (therefore the little suitcase). Isn't that cute? And it was so much fun to ransack all the paper beadlets, it felt so funny between my fingers! I'm a child at heart so that was totally to my liking :)

We messed around with the paper beadlets so frolicsomely that in the end they were spread on the kitchen floor everywhere. But it was also fun to pick them all up and put them back into the bowl:

Using a broom to tidy up leads to cool pictures like this one! ;)

Well, I really had a blast! It was a pretty unspectacular day but it included everything I love :)
How has your week been so far?

Happy Wednesday!

(picture borrowed from here)

Hi guys!

Today is my 25th birthday, I spent some some quality-time with Patrick and my family :) We had some yummy birthday cake and dinner at an old-fashioned brewery. A real food day, food everywhere ;) Now I'm so stuffed! We'll watch some episodes of Dr. House and go to bed early.

I'll be back with new posts on Wednesday (because tomorrow I'm at the office all day, boo...). Maybe you'd like to take part in my giveaway until I'm back?!

Happy Monday!

summing up favourites #5: everyday skirts

Hi guys!

It's time for another favourites post! I've come across lots of pretty skirt-outfits on my way through the blogosphere lately and I really wanted to share them with you because I'm a sucker for cute skirts and in my opinion there's nothing more comfortable and versatile clothingwise. Okay jeans maybe... but we're talking about skirts, so shush! ;)
I picked out some lovely looks that - in my eyes - are examples for the perfect everyday look concerning skirts. Simple, comfortable but still cute and chic without looking over the top. See for yourselves:

Le Happy and Little Chief Honeybee

Delightfully Tacky and Keiko Lynn
(Okay, I admit it's a dress on the left here, I don't care ;p )

Microphoneheart and Calivintage

Mod Fox and Waking Life

I felt very inspired by all of these girls above and I'll definitely wear similar for spring/summer. How about you? Like it or not? Are you a skirt-type at all?

Have a great day! :)

rapunzel

Hi guys!

I've been a sucker for navy blue clothes and maritime themes lately and it won't stop. On Tuesday I had a laser appointment in Cologne, so I seized the chance for an extensive shopping spree afterwards. I wanted to look for a nice dress for a friend's wedding and actually I already bought one but I'm not completely satisfied with it, so I keep on looking for a better one. However, I tried on like 10 dresses and none of them really fit me. Either too tight in the bust area or too loose in the stomach area or whatnot. So I put the actual shopping goal aside and just looked for random things I liked, et voilà: another navy blue piece of clothing in my wardrobe. I just couldn't resist this lovely summer dress with the sail boats print.

You may wonder about the title of this post. Well, yesterday I felt the sudden urge to have my hair cut. Okay, actually I had been planning to go to the hairdresser for weeks and never found the time to do it, but yesterday was the day. My hair grows really fast, normally I'd have to have it cut every two or three month but then I don't have the money or i don't have the time.
Anyway, my hair was really long (by my standards) so I immediately had to think of Rapunzel.
Now it's a few centimetres shorter, but I think you guys won't even notice it. I wanted to post a before-and-after-picture but when I put it together in Photoshop I could hardly see the difference. That speaks in the hairdresser's favour because I wanted it exactly like before, only shorter. ;)

By the way it was the first time I went to this hairdresser, so I was a bit doubtful. I went there without an appointment because they have this special "cut and go" offer for students where you don't have to appoint a date for. Unfortunately I had to wait an hour, but then it was ym turn and the hairdresser was very nice and advised me well. One strange moment was when her boss, the chief hairdresser or whatever, went by, stopped, looked at me and asked me if my eyebrows were painted-on or dyed. I said dyed and he mumbled something and went away. Do I have to understand that?! Strange guy...

So, it's Thursday, only one more day to go and then: weekend! Again! Could it be that the older you get, the more time flies?! I've been feeling like that since January. It's almost summer already! Hey time, where have you gone? Alas, maybe I feel it even more at the moment because I'm going to turn 25 next week, uh oh... ;)

Have a nice day!

P.S. Noticed the blog's new intro-box in the upper right corner? How do you like it?

oven tortilla recipe

Hi guys!

I spent the whole day at the office, so I don't have anything exciting to tell you. Instead I'm posting the recipe for this delicious oven tortilla that I cooked for the second time the other day. It's easier than I thought and it's a cool idea for a party or simply for in-between.

You need:

olive oil
1 clove of garlic
1 onion
1 red pepper
1 green pepper
175g potatoes
5 eggs
100g sour cream
175g grated cheese (ideally Spanish Roncal or Parmesan, but other cheese will do as well)
2 tablespoons chives
salt and pepper

1. Cook the potatoes, peel and dice them. Dice the peppers, garlic and onion.
Cover a low baking dish with aluminium foil and put it aside.
Then fry the garlic, onion and peppers with the olive oil in a pan at low heat for about 10 minutes.

2. Take the pan off the stove, let it cool down, then add the potatoes.

3. Stir the eggs, the sour cream, the cheese and the chives in a bowl. Mix it with the vegetables from the pan. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

4. Spread the "dough" in the baking dish and flatten the surface. Bake it at 190 degrees for 30-40 minutes in the pre-heated oven until it's goldenbrown. Take it out of the oven and let it cool down.

5. Loosen the edges with a knife, then turn out the cake on a chopping block so that the tortilla is upside down now. Remove the foil. If the surface is not completely firm you can put it in the oven again at low heat to let it set.

6. Chop it up at your discretion.

Bon appétit! :)

Hi guys!

How are you on this lovely Sunday? I hope you had an awesome weekend!
I feel so good today. After an extensive breakfast I edited tons of photos that I still have up my sleeve for future posts, then I went to the gym for almost two hours (which is my record so far). And now Patrick is whipping up supper and I can spend the rest of the day blogging, reading and watching TV.
So, about yesterday: Patrick's band played a concert at the Rock Your Gig Festival in Münster at the Sputnikhalle. I chose a casual and comfortable outfit because I knew we had to run and stand around a lot, carry band equipment and all, so no fancy look ;) Patrick was so kind to take a few shots of me after the festival.

♥ dress worn as tunic + jeggings: H&M ♥ cardi: gina tricot ♥ belt + bag: primark ♥ shoes: converse ♥ necklace: accessorize ♥

We arrived there just in time to see the first band but they were not my cup of tea. Then it was Tornapart's turn and after their concert we hung out at the merchandise stand when the cutest thing happened: let me explain first that Tornapart is not a famous band, they're a mere hobby band and don't have a record contract, BUT after their show there were two young girls, probably 15 or 16 years old, who asked if they could take a photo with the band. They were supernervous and both of them were shaking when the band formed a semi circle around them so that a friend could take the photo. Isn't it cute? The girls also got autographs and were perfectly happy. I could imagine the scene when they came home yesterday evening: "Look Mum, we got a photo with a REAL band!". Haha ;)

By the way this was the first time that I used my DSLR for taking concert photos. I can't believe how great the picturesd turned out! Okay I edited them to make them look "more dramatic", but most of the photos were even cool without any further ado. Oh I love my new cam!
Now the next purchase will be a tripod.

After Tornapart's show we stayed to watch some more bands, had some yummy pizza and beer, lounged about at the merchandise stand and enjoyed the mild weather. It was sunny but also very windy, a very pleasant weather if you ask me. the boys played tabletop soccer and the girls sat together and chatted.

One of the guitarists thought it would be funny to wear traditional German pants (don't ask...)

How did you spend your weekend? Has anyone watched the Eurovision Song Contest? Do you guys like the winner song from Azerbaijan? My favourite was Iceland, but I also liked the songs of the Ukraine, Ireland and Slovenia too.

Have a nice Sunday! :)
