about a blog #3: Suburban Retro

Hi guys!

Phew, finally - after 7 months - I made it to put up another round of my "about a blog" feature in which I introduce some of my very favourite blogs to you.
This time it's all about the lovely Miss Harlow and her amazing blog:

Suburban Retro

At this point I have to apologize because it took me so long: sorry sorry sorry Harlow! But here it is now :)

I've been following her blog for quite some time and have loved her enchanting vintage style ever since. She probably is the classiest Australian I've seen around the blogosphere and with her blond curls and red lips embodies this ancient Hollywood glamour of the actresses that inspire her.
She was so kind to answer some questions so you can get to know her a bit.

name: Harlow Darling

age: 21

place: Brisbane, Australia

profession: Film Studies Major

What influences you when choosing your outfit for the day?

I always try to wear something pretty and feminine no matter where I'm going or what I'm doing! For me, the clothes that I wear reflect how I feel so I always try to wear something nice because that way I will enjoy myself more and feel confident. It also depends on how I feel that day. Some days I might want to wear something more casual and simple like a shirt dress or shorts, and then there are days where I will just go all out with a vivid pattern and big crinoline.

How would you describe yourself and your style?

I think my style reflects the two sides of me; exuberant but conservative. I like big skirts, vivid patterns and long hemlines. I believe in modesty and femininity, both of these things are very important to me and hence are reflected in what I wear day to day. My style is inspired by the fashions of the 50s and 60s as I am fond of the values and aesthetics of these eras.

What are your favourite brands/shops?

I do nearly all of my shopping online! I love Modcloth because it stocks two of my favourite brands; Bernie Dexter and Bettie Page. Another amazing site I shop at frequently is Pinup Girl Clothing which stocks high quality repro clothing.

How has your style developed in the course of the last years?

My style has changed in the sense that for once in my life I am doing what I want to do and am wearing the clothes that I have always wanted to wear. I have wanted to wear things that are 50s & 60s style for a few years now, but it is only in the last year or so that I have finally embraced this. It has taken me a long time to just let go and stop caring so much about what strangers think!

What season is your favourite concerning outfits?

I really love the fashions of all of the seasons so much! I get ridiculously excited when the seasons change because I love everything about every season. If I had to pick one season though, I think it would be summer, but that's just because it is the easiest and most predictable to dress for.

What is your favourite music or what are your favourite bands?

I am a big sap, so I love music that is dreamy and romantic. I love Frank Sinatra, Buddy Holly, Dean Martin, Tony Bennet, and I especially love classical music. I love Chopin, Bach, Haydn and Mozart.

How come you started a blog?

I started a blog because I hoped it would inspire me to dress better and give me something to look back on, like a journal!

What recent trends do you like or dislike?

Haha there are A LOT of recent trends that I don't like! What I do like though is how vintage styles are back in fashion!

Any advice concerning fashion or blogging?

Be true to yourself - wear what you really want to wear and what you love wearing! Also, try not to look at the price tag, but the quality of what you are buying. In the long run you will save yourself money even if it means spending a little more than you would like to at first.

Show some love for

by heading over and taking a look or maybe even leaving a nice comment!

Thanks for the answers Harlow! :)
Have a lovely day everyone!

  1. teils-teils!
