birthday at the zoo

[EN] Hey all!

Sorry, I'm very lazy at the moment blog-wise. It was my 29th birthday last Saturday and I believe that getting older has made me slow down a bit. I have been training martial arts over the past months, have lost weight, became fitter and kept going - but at the moment I've got my foot on the brake a bit again. Being abroad for one year makes life so much more turbulent! I had just gotten used to my job at the recruiting agency and loved it but after 5 months there I have to leave again now. I'll go to the countryside outside of Perth and work on a horse farm to get my visa extension. New environment, new people, new daily routine. Life on a working holiday visa seems to never stand still which is exciting but also a bit exhausting. So right now I'm taking a tiny break from stress to prepare myself for the new challenge on the farm. I want to start mentally fit and balanced there, so right now I work out less and treat myself more, binge-watch all my favourite shows and put my feet up at home.
I feel a tiny bit bad about having gained one or two kilos but I know I will be on my feet all day soon and get rid of them again in no time.

[EN] My birthday was awesome by the way! Jarryd made me pancakes for breakfast, took me out for a coffee, spent the whole afternoon at the zoo with me, then afterwards took me out for dinner to a lovely tapas bar and to top it all off bought me a huge frozen yogurt. Then we snuggled up in bed and watched a movie. That's pretty much a perfect day to me!

I hope you're all well. Have a nice Wednesday!

birthday weekend

birthday weekend outfit post title

Hello people!

It was my birthday on Friday (28, old gal...) and my mum's birthday on Sunday so we had double birthday fun in the last days. It was basically all about good food and good times - exactly how I like it! On Friday my Dad invited me for dinner at a brewery (mmhhh Schnitzel), on Saturday I enjoyed homemade lime and mint ice tea at a Moroccan café and a long walk through the city with friends and yesterday we celebrated my mum's birthday at my favourite tapas bar.
Oh boy was I full and happy!
Furthermore my boyfriend is the best boyfriend in the world! He gave me a Star Wars cook book for my birthday! SO friggin cool! I'm a nerd, I love Star Wars and baking so this really was the perfect gift! He also gave me a book about zombies and Gingerdead Men cookie cutters - hell yes, told you he's the best! He was so cute, he ordered everything from Australia and had it shipped to my place so I got parcels from Germany, UK and I'm still waiting for one from Asia too.

This outfit was perfect for the mild springy weather yesterday, especially because of my new denim jacket which is not really new as lucky me was able to thrift it for 5 bucks. I love a good 2nd hand bargain and a denim jacket is a wardrobe staple so I really had to buy it. The shirt is a favourite that I don't wear enough and every time I do I always think "Hey I should wear it more often." and then I end up not doing so because I have to be in the right mood for horizontal stripes (unflattering!). To complete the look I threw in a little print mix by adding the chevron bag. I actually bought it to wear it to my Mum's wedding this week but couldn't resist wearing it out before because it's soooo cute!

Mmhh yummy tapas! Dates, chorizo, chicken and veggie skewers, olives, garlic dip - Spanish snack are the perfect spring/summer food. I got so hooked up on tapas again that I plan to google recipes and try to make some treats myself.
If you guys have recommendations in this regard please post them in the comments.

Have a lovely day!

one year older

Hi guys!

Today is my birthday.
I'm not saying it because I want happy birthday wishes and I'm not saying it because I want anyone's pity - I just need to say it (and write it down) to realize it myself. I am one year older now, I am 27. Period.
Damn, 27! That's no longer the middle of your twenties but rather the end of them.
I've been thinking a lot about time lately and how it rushes by. So much has changed since my last birthday. And the one before.
I'm at a point of my life where I have to rearrange everything, decide where I want to go, what I want to do, who I want to be. I'm all by myself now - first birthday as a single in what feels like ages - and I need to find out what else is out there for me apart from procrastinating my bachelor thesis, working for a student loan and pitying myself for having lost the love of my life while all the world and his wife are getting married and having children.
I know damn good that these are luxury problems - but they're still freaking hard to deal with.

I don't really know if I should be happy or sad about getting older. It rather feels like something negative to me at the moment and I wonder if one day I'll be like "Hell yes, getting older is awesome!".
I'm not good at dealing with changes - I never was and I'll probably never be - I think that's the problem. Of course changes are not always bad and when one door closes another one opens and of course everything happens for a reason, BUT (I apologize for the childish defiant tone in advance): why the hell does everything has to change?? Some things were good the way they were, so why the f*ck does life have to go along and make these changes? I could list thousands of things that used to be good but got overrun by change anyway and now they're not that good anymore.
I know that good things will come to those who wait and that after the darkest night there will be a bright sunshiny day and bla bla blergh, but I am seriously too freakin impatient for this crap!

Phew... I know all this stuff above sounds stupid and stubborn and sullen, but I had to get if off my chest and now I'm better. Getting older and dealing with changes sucks when you have no idea where you're heading.

Anyway, hope I haven't spread too many negative vibes now. I have to remember that basically everything is fine, my family, friends and I are all alive and well, hence there's actually no reason to complain. I just think I think too much. Stupid philosopher's brain in my head.

I will spend the evening with mum and the stepdad at a tapas bar and it will be nice despite my strange mood and I will stuff my face with tapas and drink a good sweet red wine and raise my glass to the memories of everything that used to be perfect before life came and tore it down with its stupid changes.
Here's to that I will either become more patient, or to that life stops saving the best for last and lets the good times roll now.

Hope you guys have a lovely day/night as well!

Hi guys!

Oh my goodness, at the moment my days can't have enough hours, I stay up much too late because Patrick is not here to drag me away from the computer at 11 o'clock to go to bed and watch Tv until we fall asleep. So instead I stay up longer, bustle about, do thousand little things and just can't manage to calm down a bit before bedtime. I've been having such a bad sleeping rhythm the last days, this seriously has to stop next week.

Anyway... yesterday was my birthday! I turned 26. Wow, time flies, it's unbelievable...
My birthday was pretty uneventful because Patrick is away, my dad is on vacation, so after work my mum came over and we went downtown to grab some burgers and ice-cream. It was the perfect relaxed "hanging out with mum" evening. :)

This dress, I looove it! I purchased it via Zalando last month, it was on sale for 24,95€ so I really couldn't resist. I've been wishing for a cute (if possible black) dress with such a collar for over a year now but couldn't find "the one" - now I found it.
The cut, the print, the collar, everything is so darling - definitely one of my new favourites! Nevertheless I'm still trying out different outfits with it because I find it quite hard to style (and I don't even know why because I own a lot of patterned dresses).
Whatsoever, my birthday seemed to be the right occasion to wear it out for the first time. :)

Oh and my mum gave me the sweetest thing for my birthday (literally): a chocolate camera! :D Aww my mum is the best, such a cute idea! Of course that's not the only thing I got, I told everyone I'm saving up for a new handbag - a rather expensive and high quality one of Fossil or Liebeskind - so I also got money.
I'll show you the bags I fancy in a post soon, but first here are the pics of the chocolate cam and of our burger feast! :)

Just to make you even more jealous: we went to Häagen-Dasz afterwards... ;)

Hope everyone had a good day!

birthday recap

Hi guys!

I'm late with posting these photos - as usual. They were all taken on Monday when I turned 25. Whew 25! What can I say? Time flies! I keep repeating it, I know. It's terrible how time flies when you grow older. Thank God I'm blessed with Mum's good genes, everytime I buy cigarettes or alcohol the people ask if I'm already 18. But I have a feeling this will be over in one or two years ;)

(don't ask me what I was doing there :D)

This is what I wore for my birthday: not really chic but cute and comfy, just as I like it. First I went to work with a bag full of muffins, brownies and cake because I work at a hoggish office, all my co-workers love cake :)
Then my dad and his girlfriend picked me up in the afternoon and we had coffee and more cake at our apartment. Cheesecake, yum!
In the evening they invited me and Patrick to a restaurant of my choice. I chose a brewery where they serve delicious simple fare. We had salad with pork stripes in honey-mustard-jus, goulash casserole and different desserts (pancakes with apple sauce, apple strudel with vanilla ice cream and so on).
So basically we were eating the whole day :D

♥ necklace: accessorize ♥ faux leather bracelet: six ♥

(btw Patrick was so kind to take these photos of me)

My dad's present was so fun! He works at a print shop, so he filled a little cardboard suitcase with all the paper beadlets that are a a by-product of the punch machine and hid an envelope for me in it. The envelope contained money for our Ireland holiday next year (therefore the little suitcase). Isn't that cute? And it was so much fun to ransack all the paper beadlets, it felt so funny between my fingers! I'm a child at heart so that was totally to my liking :)

We messed around with the paper beadlets so frolicsomely that in the end they were spread on the kitchen floor everywhere. But it was also fun to pick them all up and put them back into the bowl:

Using a broom to tidy up leads to cool pictures like this one! ;)

Well, I really had a blast! It was a pretty unspectacular day but it included everything I love :)
How has your week been so far?

Happy Wednesday!

(picture borrowed from here)

Hi guys!

Today is my 25th birthday, I spent some some quality-time with Patrick and my family :) We had some yummy birthday cake and dinner at an old-fashioned brewery. A real food day, food everywhere ;) Now I'm so stuffed! We'll watch some episodes of Dr. House and go to bed early.

I'll be back with new posts on Wednesday (because tomorrow I'm at the office all day, boo...). Maybe you'd like to take part in my giveaway until I'm back?!

Happy Monday!

birthday bash #2

Hi guys!

So here are the photos of birthday bash no. 2, they were taken on Friday night when I met my girls to celebrate the birthday of my best friend Farah at a lovely little Italian restaurant in Aachen. The restaurant called Maccaroni had a nice Art Nouveau interior and very delicious food on the menue.

Nina (on the left) announced her marriage, she's the first bride-to-be in our circle of friends :)

The ultimate Chinese victory posing photo for our friend Jasmin who's living in Beijing at the moment.
We miss you! ;)

As I'm not in the photo above because I took it, I have a victory posing photo from our girl's night last month for Jasmin. See, I couldn't shirk it ;)

As you can see we had a wonderful time together! I can even say we had a blast two days in a row because of birthday bash no. 1 the day before :)
It's so awesome that we manage to meet at least once each month and that we're still best friends after we were classmates at school and got scattered all over the Rhineland due to our studies.
I love you girls, you're the best! ;)
And I hope they won't be mad at me because I posted some of the photos here...
