the giants

Hello loves!

I know this should be a Valentine's Day post because the blogosphere is full of belated ones right now, BUT screw Valentine's Day because I have something better: art! I also don't celebrate Valentine's Day and forgot to prepare something romance-themed for the blog.
So art it is instead. Big art. Giant art. The Giants!

The Giants are two huge puppets brought to the Perth International Arts Festival by the French mechanical marionette street theatre company Royal De Luxe.
If you are interested in the whole background story you can find an article about it here.

The Giant Little Girl and the Giant Diver roamed the streets of Perth last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They each walked different routes through the city and surprised the audience with actions like riding a giant scooter, taking a giant wee in the street or taking a giant shower before going to sleep in a giant bed. Pretty gigantic huh?!
Their strolls were always accompanied by a parade of musicians, volunteer helpers and of course the puppeteers (all dressed in red velvet in over 30°C by the way).

Jarryd and I went to see the Giants on Sunday on their last day of performance and it seemed all of Perth was there to say farewell - oh boy, it was so crowded!
Also the people sadly were a bit aggressive about having the best spot and view on the sidewalk and got a bit too snappy so that I spent most of the time telling these idiots to leave me the f*** alone. I moved back and forth to not have everyone's head in my pictures and as soon as I moved people around me were like "Don't you dare blocking my view, I've been here since 8 in the morning!" It was exhausting and made me really angry, ggrrrr....
The parade was still fun though and I was able to enjoy watching the giant puppets walk around regardless.
In the very end they shot confetti rain and vintage postcards into the air and I picked one up as a souvenir because this is something I'll probably never see again in my life: guys in red velvet suits operating giant lifelike puppets in the name of art. Crazy!

Afterwards we headed to La Veen Coffee and Kitchen, one of my favourite places in the city, to rest a bit and fuel up with coffee. And as if giant puppets wouldn't be enough art already, I also have some colourful outfit pics from our subsequent graffiti stroll for you. Ha! My blog has never been so artsy!

All outfit pics were taken by Jarryd. Thanks Babe!

Hope you enjoyed this!
Have a lovely day!

Mair1 Festival weekend

Hi lovelies!

It's summer (well, at least according to the calendar, the weather here is something else...) - and summer time means festival time! So despite the crappy weather I spent my weekend at the Mair1 Festival with friends. We camped and it was bitterly cold at night and mostly also in the daytime but still it was a great weekend with lots of fun and awesome bands.
My favourites definitely were Boysetsfire, NOFX and Funeral For A Friend - and the hot coffee at the crêpes booth!
Here are some impressions of what happened:

Yes I'm wearing the oxblood hoody in every photo because I lived in it all weekend. On Saturday it was so cold that I actually wore two shirts and another sweater underneath and a parka over it to keep me warm.
It's ridiculous but if I had known better I would have brought my winter jacket - no joke! And it is June! So unbelievable...

Anyway, have you already visited some festivals this summer? Are you planning to do so? Where? And what bands do you want to see?

Happy Monday!

pause, play

Hi guys!

I'm sorry it's been so quiet around here this week but I had tons of things  that kept me busy, so again there was no time for blogging.
And from today until Sunday I'll be at Mair1 festival - woohoo, finally a festival weekend again! Haven't had one for what feels like forever, so looking forward to it! :)
Hope I'll be able to post lots of festival pics next week.

Until then have a great time!

for free and open air

Hi guys!

On Saturday we went to Rheinkultur, a festival in Bonn. It's one of the few "umsonst & draussen Festivals" in Germany, which means that it's an open air and for free, anybody can go and watch the concerts. The only reason we went there was a band called Gallows, but we also watched bits of other bands' gigs, met some friends, had some fastfood and beer and rummaged around in all the merchandise stands. It was not a perfect festival day but nevertheless we had a really good time.

Gallows is a hardcore punk band, so of course they completely ignored the banner next to the stage that said "No stage-diving or violent-dancing". They played a really cool concert, put the pedal to the metal and their frontman stayed in the middle of the audience for half the gig, he was so far away from the stage, I've never seen this at a concert before. You could always see his ginger hair peeking out between all the other people in the crowd :)
I found a youtube video of it for you, you can see it here.
You should really watch the end of the video at minute 13.50 when the frontman is carried back to the stage by the fans, so cool!
And this video shows the frontman how he mobs some goths that were sitting while everybody else was standing. Very funny! British humour I suppose?

After we had seen Gallows we were perfectly happy, so we grabbed some beer and sat down on one of the hills where we had a good view on the main stage. The next act was a German hip hop group, so we watched them a bit but I must say I find hip hop concerts pretty boring because the audience is only waving one of their arms to the beat the whole time. How about moving your whole body to the music people? Hm no, somehow they didn't. That's what I love about hardcore and metal, there's always something different going on in front of the stage, so much action!

On our way back to the car we had to walk through this beautiful and huge park in Bonn, the Rheinaue. It's such a lovely place, so we seized the chance to take some photos. When I'm out and about with Patrick and my camera I always have my yearly DIY photo calendar project in the back of my mind, so I'm happy when we are able to have some photos of us taken by a friend :)

Have you guys already been to a festival this summer? Or do you plan to go to certain ones? It has only just begun so there are still lots of festivals to come, I can't wait for more :)

Happy Monday!

Hi guys!

How are you on this lovely Sunday? I hope you had an awesome weekend!
I feel so good today. After an extensive breakfast I edited tons of photos that I still have up my sleeve for future posts, then I went to the gym for almost two hours (which is my record so far). And now Patrick is whipping up supper and I can spend the rest of the day blogging, reading and watching TV.
So, about yesterday: Patrick's band played a concert at the Rock Your Gig Festival in Münster at the Sputnikhalle. I chose a casual and comfortable outfit because I knew we had to run and stand around a lot, carry band equipment and all, so no fancy look ;) Patrick was so kind to take a few shots of me after the festival.

♥ dress worn as tunic + jeggings: H&M ♥ cardi: gina tricot ♥ belt + bag: primark ♥ shoes: converse ♥ necklace: accessorize ♥

We arrived there just in time to see the first band but they were not my cup of tea. Then it was Tornapart's turn and after their concert we hung out at the merchandise stand when the cutest thing happened: let me explain first that Tornapart is not a famous band, they're a mere hobby band and don't have a record contract, BUT after their show there were two young girls, probably 15 or 16 years old, who asked if they could take a photo with the band. They were supernervous and both of them were shaking when the band formed a semi circle around them so that a friend could take the photo. Isn't it cute? The girls also got autographs and were perfectly happy. I could imagine the scene when they came home yesterday evening: "Look Mum, we got a photo with a REAL band!". Haha ;)

By the way this was the first time that I used my DSLR for taking concert photos. I can't believe how great the picturesd turned out! Okay I edited them to make them look "more dramatic", but most of the photos were even cool without any further ado. Oh I love my new cam!
Now the next purchase will be a tripod.

After Tornapart's show we stayed to watch some more bands, had some yummy pizza and beer, lounged about at the merchandise stand and enjoyed the mild weather. It was sunny but also very windy, a very pleasant weather if you ask me. the boys played tabletop soccer and the girls sat together and chatted.

One of the guitarists thought it would be funny to wear traditional German pants (don't ask...)

How did you spend your weekend? Has anyone watched the Eurovision Song Contest? Do you guys like the winner song from Azerbaijan? My favourite was Iceland, but I also liked the songs of the Ukraine, Ireland and Slovenia too.

Have a nice Sunday! :)

mini festival tour

Hi guys!

It feels like it's been ages since I posted the last post. I really had no time to show you pictures of the weekend until now because I was out and about each day since Thursday.
Patrick's band tornapart did a mini festival tour consisting of two gigs on Friday and Saturday and then yesterday it was his birthday, so we were totally busy.
It was great fun though, we really had a blast, the festivals were awesome and the weather was sunny sunny sunny. The outfit photos were taken on Friday before I left for the Philo/MuWi Festival, an event with several bands that was organized by our philosophy student's council and some people from the music studies (MuWi).

shirt + purse: h&m, pants: new yorker, belt + shoes: thrifted, necklace: accessorize

My outfit was perfect for the hot and sticky weather: a loose shirt (knotted to define the silhouette a bit), my wonderful feel-like-pyjamas pants, some comfy flats, a cute little purse and a bit of plum lipstick for not looking too casual. Normally I sweat like hell and moan around all day, but I noticed that this year I seem to get along with the heat pretty well. Let's hope it will stay like that until autumn ;)

There were cool bands, yummy cocktails and lovely people, what else do we need?
Here you can see some photos from our Friday:

rock 'n roll all night and party everyday

Saturday was even better! Tornapart played at Rock on Farm, a little festival that some fellow musicians had organized at their parent's farm. So Saturday afternoon we found ourselves driving through an endless forest to reach this beautiful little spot, which is completely surrounded by trees and more trees. They had put up a comparatively big stage on the fields where cows and goats use to graze. Then there were little stands where all the mothers sold delicious homemade goulash soup, pasta napoli and sausages and the fathers tapped beers at the beverage cart. It was a sort of huge family event where everybody tried to help as good as possible, from the little ones to the grandparents, so lovely :)

Here are some Saturday photos:

So, as you can see, our weekend was great! How was yours? :)

Have a nice day!
