my first christmas abroad

Hello loves!

I'm a bit late but here is my Christmas outfit! Hey, at least it's still December.
It would have been embarrassing only if I hadn't managed to post it before New Year's Eve, so it's still okay.
This year it was my first Christmas away from my family and friends and instead the first Christmas with my boyfriend's family - so many first times, wow! Let's just make it short and sweet: it was something special so I wanted a special outfit.
I had bought this lovely dress shortly after my arrival in Perth on my first shopping spree in the city and I already knew that I would have to wear it for Christmas. I mean golden stars, red belt, green cardi, come on! It couldn't be more perfect!
It turned out to be the right choice because we had 35°C on Christmas Day and I was happy to wear something light and breezy.

cardigan: thrifted
dress: dotti
belt: thrifted
shoes: h+m

We spent Christmas Day with Jarryd's family at his sister's place so we could watch his little 1,5 year old nephew unwrap the presents. Such a little cutie!
He is still a bit too young to understand the whole concept of Christmas presents but he had lots of fun tearing the wrapping paper apart and trying out all his cool new toy cars and trucks. We also had a lovely brunch together and then just hung out for a while.
Later that day Jarryd and I grabbed a coffee at the 24/7 McDonald's (because we are so classy) and went to the South Perth Foreshore. It was hot but with a little breeze by the water and the Perth skyline showed itself in all its beauty as usual.

We took a little walk around too and watched the cute birdies but they were too shy to let us come really close. Well, I managed to get these two snapshots at least.

That was my Christmas 2014 - very different from all past Christmas Days in my life. I still had a lovely time though and it was really interesting to see how Australians celebrate, what they eat, what they do etc.

I hope you guys had a wonderful Christmas too.
Have fun tomorrow celebrating New Year's Eve!

what to wear for new year's eve

Hello loves!

I'm still going through my Christmas pics to put together an outfit post for you. As long as this is not ready to be uploaded, instead let's talk New Year's Eve! That's right, I'm adressing the topic that's unpopular every year. We all have closed the Christmas chapter now or will at least do so in the course of the next days - but what about New Year's Eve?
I always tend to forget about it in all the Christmas hassle. You plan where you spend your Christmas holidays, pick outfits based on these plans and think you've got your life together - and then suddenly Christmas is over already and leaves you with only a couple of days to catch up on the NYE plans.
This year however it's different because I'm a clever girl and have already thought about the new year celebrations for you!
I found a lovely Canadian online shop called PickeDresses which offers a wide range of beautiful Montreal Prom Dresses. Okay I'm not planning to visit a prom ball but these dresses are so pretty and elegant that you can simply wear them for a glamourous New Year's Eve celebration too.

I have picked the two dresses above to give you some style inspiration for your festive New Year's Eve celebrations.
If you ask me, you can never go wrong with sparkling cocktail dresses! The red one is an eye-catcher because of the colour and the adorable bow, the black/silver one is a bit more subtle but stil glamourous enough with the sequined bustier top. Both of them are statement dresses that basically don't need any further ado, just a nice pair of shoes and a clutch bag.

I would combine the red party princess dress with some elegant simple golden accessories like the heels and clutch above. The red sparkly earrings are a nice touch for some extra glamour.
The black/silver dress is a bit cooler and less girly, so I would go for a rocker kind of style here with black ankle boots and a black leather clutch, even a biker leather jacket if it's cold outside. For an extra portion of glam rock I would add a silver glitter headband on messy out-of-bed hair.

Another tip for NYE: carry heel cushioning pads and compact powder in your clutch. The pads to prevent aching feet in high heels and the compact powder to keep your face and hairline matte - and to conceal potential makeup faux-pas like runny mascara or bleeding lipstick.

Have fun preparing for NYE ladies! Happy Saturday!

tomato lake

Hello loves!

How is everyone doing now that it's almost Christmas?
I'm more relaxed than ever this year. As I'm spending my very first Christmas abroad I didn't have to buy or do much for my family back at home. I ordered presents online and will have them delivered to everyone in Germany by mail.
Here in Australia I only had to buy two presents for two people. They will be wrapped tomorrow and that's it. Easiest and most stress-free Christmas, me likey!

jacket:fleamarket (h+m)
dress: fleamarket (h+m)
belt: thrifted
bracelet: accessorize
shoes: vans

This outfit is what  wore to visit Tomato Lake the other day (scroll down for more info and pics). It is the cheapest outfit ever! I bought both, jacket and dress, for 4 Euros each earlier this year at one of my former neighbourhood's awesome fleamarkets. The belt came as a freebie with another thrifted dress and the shoes are bought second hand via a clothes swapping website for 18 Euros. So you can basically say this whole look costs less than 30 bucks! How cool is that?!

Some days ago Jarryd took me to a lovely place nearby called Tomato Lake. It's a park/reserve area with said lake in its center. I asked where the funny name comes from, he said he doesn't know for sure but believes it simply has the shape of a tomato.
All around the lake is a footpath to take a walk and enjoy nature. They have lots of different plants there and a huge amount of birds to watch too. I saw ducks and other small water birds, but what impressed me was that you can see wild Pelicans swimming on the lake. As a not well-travelled German I had never seen Pelicans in the wild before. It's really cool that Australia basically feels like one huge wildlife zoo to me.

Have a lovely day and do some nice christmassy things before the magic is gone! :)

what to wear for christmas

Hello lovelies!

How are you? Can you believe Christmas is only  one more week away? Time flies!
So how about some last minute Christmas outfit inspiration anyone?

Choosing an outfit always depends on your plans of course but let's be honest: no matter where you celebrate, it won't hurt to wear a pretty dress right? Be it a fine dining restaurant, your grandma's living room, a public party, church etc. - wherever you go a chic dress can't be the wrong choice. Okay except for maybe voluntary work in the soup kitchen, fine! That goes without saying though, doesn't it?

My plans for Christmas are still a bit vague but I will, of course, spend it with Jarryd and his family because I'm sooo far away from my family and friends in Germany this year. I don't want to spoiler too much, but I will definitely wear two beautiful new dresses I bought in the sale some weeks ago.

To inspire you a bit I have looked through an online shop called PickeDresses which offers a wide range of the most stunning Prom Dresses. They ship internationally within approximately 4-8 working days so there is still time to order if you find the perfect frock girls.
As mentioned before I already have my dresses together for Christmas but I still took the opportunity to pick my two favourite prom dresses from their website to show you how I would style them. These two below are my picks and to make it more interesting I went for a short and a long dress.

I picked the yellow one because this colour would look amazing with my copper/blonde hair. Also the cut is very flattering for my body shape and will conceal a little gut after all the good Christmas food.
I am not a fan of rhinestones and sequins, so the subtle beads on the waist are a perfect little detail that's not too much kitsch.
The maxi dress caught my eye because of this unique shade of midnight blue, which is also a good colour choice for redheads like me. The cut and fit with the sexy bodice and the flowing skirt don't need much further ado to make you look elegant.

Golden Christmas

As I would like the dresses to look extra festive for Christmas I would go for golden accessories head to toes. I know I said I'm not a fan of rhinestones and sequins but I have to admit that a little dose of glitter glams up every look.

What do you think? Like the dresses?

Happy Wednesday!

my interview outfit

Hello everyone!

How have you been?
I have some really awesome news to share with you today: I finally found a new job! Woohoo! My first real job as a graduate and also my first job abroad. And it's a good one too! I'll be a receptionist and office admin for a recruitung agency starting from next month. I really couldn't be happier, the office and the people are lovely. I signed my contract yesterday and can't wait for January now.
I was already panicking about my small budget but now I know I won't run out of money and will be able to stay in Australia for a while.

blouse: primark
necklace: kmart
belt: l.a. golden
skirt: h+m
shoes: h+m
bracelet: six

The outfit in the pictures has been my interview outfit for all kinds of job interviews so far, be it retail, hospitality or office position.
I have never been the classic business look girl, it's just not for me. Business pants are simply not possible on me because  my legs are two different sizes and office pants fabric turns out to be really unflattering for this problem (who knew?!)...
Furthermore I have this lip piercing which seems to be screaming "She is a criminal! She will rob you and kill your family!" into people's faces all of the time. Always makes me feel like I come across as a punk (business punk maybe?), which is not bad. Simply can't pull off a classic business outfit, just saying.
So I decided to be myself and make my outfit show it: classic black and white is always chic, some quirky jewelry and red nails make it "more me" and the brown leather belt adds a bit of my love for vintage to it. Add a pair of black flats that show I really am no high heels  girl et voilĂ , that's my business style.
I will always try hard to find an employer who respects my appearance and is interested in my skills rather than take out my piercing and change my style for somebody who doesn't care about my skills and just looks at my outside.

By the way: Do you see a Cannabis leaf in the necklace? I know it's not the exact shape and try to ignore it but I'm always afraid others will interpret it as a symbol of smoking weed. I'm not Miley Cyrus, people! I swear!

Have a fantastic weekend!
