final countdown

Japanese fireworks over Düsseldorf (photo by Volker Banken)

Hi guys!

Funniest dialogue today

Me: "You wanna go outside and have a smoke?"
Patrick: " In a second, I just have to frisk these corpses for ammo."

Haha, he was playing Red Dead Redemption on his PS3. Just imagine someone had heard this! Yes, we might seem like the nice couple next-door, but we have dark secrets... :D

Anyway, so that was 2010 guys. I'll spend the last hours of this year on baking cake and on getting dolled up for the theme party at a friend's. I bought a pretty blazer in the sale yesterday especially for it and I hope the outfit will turn out glamourous enough, I'm just not apt at glamour.

So here is a kind of little recap with what happenened in my life 2010 mixed with some of my favourite outfits:

outfit post "starting something"

In March I finally had the guts to start this blog here and it's unbelievable how it has developed so far! At first I felt intimidated and had my doubts because I didn't have a good camera and no idea of how and what and where, but I'm extremely glad I kept on blogging! It was new to me and exciting and it's one of the few things in my life that I didn't give up on due to lacking ambition.

outfit post "my birthday - I'm 24 now"

In April I passed one of the most important exams for my philosophy studies! I think it was my best moment in 2010 when I saw the results, it was such a relief! I had failed this logic exam two times before and this year was my very last try to succeed, which put me under enormous pressure. If I had failed three times my philosophy studies would have been over and as I love philosophy so much I just didn't want to let this happen.
This was another one of these few times that I didn't give up like I normally do when something appears impossible to me.
In May I turned 24, wow time flies, sometimes I feel so old. Where have the good old times gone when you couldn't wait to grow up? Ah, melancholy... ;)

outfit post "mini festival tour"

In the summer months I had problems to put together nice outfits - like every year. Two minutes outside in the sun and I sweat like hell, so this year's hot summer really challenged me. But I discovered my love for jodhpur pants because of the crazy hot weather and so I was able to stay cool and comfortable in the heat without having to wear short pants (I begrudgingly have to admit that my legs are still a weak point).

outfit post "waiting for gina"

In September/October my Mum moved away from the little village where I grew up, it was pretty emotional for me because I spent the first 20 years of my life there. The house was sold and we had this big house move, packed boxes, sorted out things, went to the fleamarket and sold pieces of our old life. On the one hand it was sad, but on the other hand it was time for my Mum to move on 5 years after the divorce.

outfit post "colour me happy"

The last two months weren't so exciting, I had to work a lot and do stuff for uni.
The winter highlight was my 8th anniversary with Patrick on December the 14th, wow 8 years is a long time but it doesn't feel like that at all. Oh btw we're not married and don't plan to ;)

Ah it's nice to look back at the last 9 months, blogging has really become way more than a hobby. It keeps me going like nothing ever did before. As I said, I'm a procrastinator, I'm someone who gives up too fast, but blogging has changed these habits a bit and I hope the change will go on.

Thanks to all my lovely readers, to everyone who took the time to read and comment! I love how blogging enables me to get to know so many wonderful people!
I hope you'll all still be there in 2011! I promise I won't give up on this here ;)

Have lots of fun tonight! Happy new year to you all!!! 2011 will be great!

Hi guys!

I watched this movie the other day:
The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec,
based on a French comic.

First of all I'd love to see the movie in French, it's such a beautiful language! Unfortunately I don't speak it.
Secondly the movie was wonderful! Cute, funny, sexy Adèle is so charming as a cheeky archaeologist-reporter who travels around the world and wakes up mummies to find a cure for her sister. Okay, the animated mummies and the pterodactyl are no superduper special effects, but that doesn't derogate the lovely atmosphere.

What makes the movie really worth watching is the pretty Louise Bourgoin as Adèle:

She looks terrific in every single scene, smiles this whimsical smile perfectly.
And there are these beautiful costumes!
Madame Adèle only wears these stunning ancient gowns with beautiful huge hats, aaw I love it! I wish women would still dress like that nowadays :)

All the outfits are so wonderful, very steampunk and feminine and gorgeoussss.
So if you like amazing costumes this movie is a must.
The make up and historical backdrops are fabulous as well!

I could only find these few pictures online, but in the trailer you can see it a bit better.

What do you think? Like it? :)

Have a nice day!

we're burning down the highway skyline

Hi guys!

Aaah I feel so much better now that we're back home in our cozy little apartment after the Christmas days with the family. After events like that I always remember that I love to be alone from time to time...
We're back to our normal daily routine - well at least almost. I don't have to work, but Patrick does and I have to run so many errands and do this and that here at home. So many plans for the next days!
I want to make a DIY calendar with photos of me and Patrick like I do every year, want to clean up the apartment, want to go shopping with Mum, want to read some philosophy texts for uni, want to kill zombies with Patrick (I love this game!), ah so much to do :)
Tomorrow I'll accompany a friend of mine to a surgery because her stupid ex boyfriend doesn't want to, now that he's the ex. God, he's such a dork!

♥ dress & cardi: h&m ♥ blouse: pimkie ♥ hat: zara ♥ leggings: ergee ♥ legwarmers: gift from a friend ♥ boots: ebay ♥

This is one of my most favourite outfits ever! When I put it together in front of the mirror I was like "woah that's so me!". The funny thing about it is that it happened randomly because I wanted to wear some pieces one more time before they went into the laundry box. It's a nice feel-good look, comfy and colourful and cute and I love this floral dress anyway, it's one of my few goes-with-anything-pieces. The boots too! They're the best Ebay bargain I bought this year. Hah and I finally found this perfectly-fitting checkered blouse at Pimkie. I don't really like this brand but at least they have a realistic sizing - not like the crappy H&M button-downs that are for A cup girls, no matter if the tag says S, M or L.

Sooo New Year's Eve is drawing nearer, it's almost there! We're invited to a party at a friend's apartment and they have a theme, it's "Glamour". Ehm... maybe you might already know that I'm not glamourous at all, I mean look at my style: no glitter, no high heels, no glamour. I still don't know what to wear but I think I'll rather go for a men's wear -ish look with black pants and jacket, maybe something like this? What do you think?

And what are your plans for New Year's Eve? :)

Have a lovely day!

a christmas chaos

Hi guys!

Thank you so much for your lovely Christmas comments, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time yourself! :-)

Well, to be honest my Christmas was a chaos. Due to the heavy snowfall here in Germany nothing went like it was planned. I spent the night from 23rd to 24th at my Mum's and wanted to go to Patrick and his parents on Christmas Eve. Patrick had taken my travelling bag with him and my Mum said she wouldn't drive me there because of all this snow and if I'd like to end up in the ditch freezing to death cause no one's on the street in this weather. So I didn't even have fresh clothes when I had to spend another night at Mum's house, awesome...

blouse: h&m ♥ pants: amisu ♥ belt: topshop via ebay ♥ shoes: deichmann

And that's just how it began. I won't go into detail about the rest of the holidays because my and Patrick's families are crazy. I just can say that we decided to book a trip to a nice place somewhere not in Germany for next year...

Here are some photos of what happened between the madness moments ;-)

We visited my cute puzzled old grandma...

...and my best friend and his dogs. These are Braskar and Juna :-)

Patrick bought us a new TV

How was your Christmas? I hope you're all doing fine! :-)

Have a nice day!

Merry Christmas!

Hi guys!

Merry Christmas to all my lovelies out there in the blogosphere!

I'm at my Mum's in the suburbs, completely snowbound. We're not able to go visit my poor old Grandma because it's snowing like crazy. I LOVE it, but it sucks every year anew that Germany can't handle the snow and that everything collapses when there's more than 10 centimetres fresh snow... I live in the wrong country...

Anyway, I wish all you guys out there merry Christmas, lovely holidays, a nice time with the loved ones and that you all get what you were wishing for! :-)

Snowy greetings,

Carina

pre-christmas packing

Hi guys!

Today I finally faced it: I packed my suitcase for the next 5 days.
I really hate it when I have to decide what to wear in advance because my outfits depend on my mood an how the hell can I know what my mood will be like the day after tomorrow??
So you are officially allowed to call me insane now that I tell you I spent the last three hours in front of the bedroom mirror trying out different combos haha. Well insanity can sometimes be likeable right? Can it? Please?

parka: vero moda ♥ circle scarf, jeans, cardi, belt: h&m ♥ skirt worn as dress: vintage ♥ boots: ebay

So here's my plan: tomorrow I'll be out and about a lot (uni, university hospital, trainride to my Mum's place) so I'll wear exactly the same outfit like today, the one from the photos. I wear outfits like this a lot, they're what I call my scheme: jeans, tunic, cardi, boots. That's a perfect combo for everyday.
I've planned something chic for Christmas Eve, something rather casual for the 25th and something rather chic again for the 26th. Hopefully I'll be able to take many photos ;)

So what are your activity and/or outfit plans for Christmas guys? Any ideas yet? I'm curious :)

Have a lovely day!

new year in sight

Hi guys!

The new year's almost there and I'm looking back at 2010 and at how far my little blog has developed over the past months. It keeps me writing and improving my written English, it keeps me photographing and it keeps me creating new outfits with my student budget - it's so great!
And I "met" so many interesting and stylish people, well at least I met them virtually and they all inspire me so much!

So, actually I have some plans for my blog for next year to improve it:

- better photos! I love taking all sorts of photos and I hope the money I get for Christmas will be enough to finally buy a DSLR

- new design! I'm already planning a new look for my blog in my head and I hope I'll have the time to sit down and realize it between Christmas and New year's Eve

- a new name! I feel like Bad Taste Toast was a good start but as the blog has developed I'm thinking about renaming it soon. However I don't have an idea yet. Any suggestions?

- introducing other blogs! I know this feature is old hat for most other bloggers, but I haven't done this so far and I think it's about time :)

I had never thought that there would be 164 lovely readers following my blog after only 9 months, so this is amazing! You guys are amazing! Thank you :)

Here's to Bad Taste Toast 2.0 in 2011!

I ♥ Düsseldorf

Hi guys!

Over the past few months I collected photos of Düsseldorf (and surroundings) on my mobile phone. Whenever I thought there was a cool motif I took a picture.
Here they are, hope you enjoy:

the taste of ink

Hi guys!

Aw I'm sorry, I've wanted to blog the last two days but never had the time. It seems the nearer Christmas draws, the more hectic is everything. Feels like the whole (Christian) world is a madhouse these days. But that's good, it means it never gets boring.

cardi: mango, shirt + tights: h&m, belt: fleamarket, skirt: thrifted via ebay, hat + necklace: accessorize, leg warmers: gift from a friend, boots: ebay

So, this outfit is from someday last week when it wasn't that cold. Of course I still had to wear my coat and scarf and all, but the photos were taken when the temperature climbed out of the minus degrees up to +4° or so.
I'm not 100% happy with this look now that I see it in the photos because the colour combo didn't turn out as good as I thought it would. Ah well, now I know better for the next time...

necklace: accessorize, ring: six

Actually I'm in a hurry because I need to get dressed and get ready to go to Patrick's parents this afternoon and to his band rehearsal. To cut a long story short: I hope I'll be able to post something better tomorrow. For now I wish you all a fantastic weekend!

Have a great time!
